Job Description:

Herkimer College is seeking qualified applicants for an Admissions Assistant. This is a 12-month, on-site position that will conduct on and off campus recruitment activities for the college and act as an external marketing representative.

Major responsibilities include:

  • Participating in high school visitation program throughout New York State, as well as nearby states.

  • Representing the College at college fairs, educational programs, vocational centers, SUNY programs, conferences, and other events held throughout New York State, as well as nearby states.

  • Interviewing and advising prospective students regarding college programs and services during high school visits and when students and families visit the college.

  • Assisting with the communications and check-in of students at Placement Testing and Registration Programs.

  • Providing students with basic financial aid information.

  • Communicating with prospective students and with high school guidance counselors via phone, letter, e-mail and social networking (Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, etc.).

  • Conducting college tours as needed and requested.

  • Organizing group visits and Special Program Days.

  • Supervising tour guides for Admissions Office and on-campus events.

  • Assisting in updating the Admissions and Facebook websites in collaboration with the college webmaster.

  • Assignment to a specific academic division within the college in order to attend divisional meetings and share program information.

  • Preparing a travel schedule for high school visits and college fairs, and maintaining accurate records of recruitment activity and travel expenses.

  • Assisting in the development of annual objectives and in the preparation of annual reports.

  • Analyzing statistical student data and preparation of reports as needed.

  • Serving on standing or ad hoc committees as assigned.

  • Performing all other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Minimum Experience and Educational Background:

Associate degree required; Bachelor's degree in Marketing or a related field preferred. Experience with BANNER operating system preferred. Other requirements: valid NYS driver's license with clean record; must be available to travel Monday through Friday, including out of state. Overnight stays can be expected. Must be available to work occasional weekends as required; strong oral and written communication skills; evidence of working in diverse communities; demonstrated experience using Microsoft Office and internet browsers. Preferred attributes: evidence of involvement in student activities, campus clubs and organizations; previous customer service experience, including in person, via telephone, via e-mail; previous teaching or presentation experience; a background in social media marketing is preferred.

Additional Information:

Salary range: $36,415 - $54,625 - based on qualifications and experience.
