Job Overview

This role will support the entirety of the business locations as it relates to the review and support of all workers’ compensation claims. You will work to reduce the risk of loss to the organization through oversight and management of workers’ compensation claims, policies, programs, and procedures.

Job Responsibilities

  • Administer the GLC workers’ compensation program across all GLC locations and business functions.

  • Collaborate with Human Resources, EHS and plant management on workers’ compensation claim administration, including injury reporting, drug testing, and transitional work programs.

  • Interact with workers’ compensation third party administrators (TPAs) and managed care organizations (MCOs) to ensure proper handling of claims that align with organizational and plant objectives.

  • Communicate effectively and build cross-functional relationships with Human Resources, EHS, and Operations.

  • Schedule and participate in claim conferences to discuss strategy, reserves, and settlement authority and communicate these decisions internally, as necessary.

  • Collaborate with GLC Corporate Attorney and workers’ compensation claim counsel on high-risk or litigated claims.

  • Collaborate with Human Resources when employee has additional claims that may overlap with workers’ compensation claim.

  • Communicate workers’ compensation losses as well as perform analysis to determine trends in workers’ compensation claims.

  • Manage all aspects of the claim file including reviewing for accuracy and ensuring payment for all bills and settlements.

  • Work cross functionally with various GLC locations to administer and streamline policies and procedures related to workers’ compensation, including Transitional Work Programs.

  • Compare current policy/procedures to current regulations and best practices across the industry.

  • Monitor plant application of workers’ compensation practices and state law.

  • Attend ongoing training related to workers’ compensation, including captive insurance and state monopolistic insurance programs.

  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Occupational Safety, related field or high school diploma and 10 years of experience administering workers’ compensation claims.

  • Detail-oriented with 3-5 years of workers’ compensation claims management in a multi-state environment.

  • Knowledgeable as it relates to ADA and FMLA interaction with workers’ compensation cases.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills across all hierarchical levels.

  • Strong negotiation skills with ability to make confident and informed decisions independently.

  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

  • Must be legally authorized to work for a company in the U.S. without sponsorship both now and in the future.

  • Domestic travel up to 20%; Based on business needs.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Experience working with a captive insurance program.

  • Experience in handling claims in a food-manufacturing environment.

Working Conditions

• Work is performed in an office setting.

• Occasional exposure to industrial operations including: temperature extremes from approximately 35ºF to 100ºF; noise levels in excess of 85 dB; moisture and moving machinery.
