Wappingers Central School District Secondary Assistant Principal in Hopewell Junction, New York

The Wappingers Central School District is seeking candidates for an anticipated full-time secondary assistant principal vacancy with an anticipated start date of no later than September 3, 2023. General responsibilities of this position include assisting the school principal in leadership, coordination, supervision and management of the school programs and operation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Administers a program of student discipline.

    1. Assists with staff evaluations.

    2. Manages building staff, including class schedules and building problems.

    3. Supervises staff attendance and assignment of substitute teachers and substitute payroll.

    4. Duty schedule assignments in coordination with the master schedule.

    5. Staff development.

    6. Provides general supervision to students.

    7. Supervises extra-curricular and intramural activities.

    8. Supervises the daily transportation and cafeteria responsibilities of the building including late runs.

    9. Supervises student attendance, including coordination of home teaching.

    10. Supervises the organization and development of a student activity program.

    11. Serves on district level committees.

    12. Assists the Principal and the Directors in the administration of the total instructional program.

    13. Handle grade-level academic appeals and serve as grade-level 504 Chair

    14. Performs such other duties as may be assigned by the Principal.

Job Qualifications

The successful candidate for this tenure-track position will possess the following qualifications:

  • Solid understanding of the emotional and social development of adolescents

  • Strong interpersonal skills with students, parents and staff

  • Demonstrated excellence in the areas of listening, writing and oral communication

  • Willingness to be visible in and a part of the school community and events

  • Ability to collaborate witht he faculty and administrative team

  • Proven leadership in curriculum and instruction

  • Enhanced knowledge of highly effective teaching practices

  • Knowledge of special education, the CSE process and Section 504

  • Competence in the use of instructional technology and the ability to use data to inform instruction

  • Secondary teaching experience

  • Experience in Master Scheduling preferred

  • Valid NYS School Building Leader certification
