Job Description Summary

This position involves developing and implementing marketing strategies for the Campus Store and University Images at Michigan Tech, serving as part of a team dedicated to customer service. Key responsibilities include managing promotional campaigns, assisting students and customers, and overseeing website content and order fulfillment. By effectively promoting merchandise and engaging with customers, the role contributes to the department's goal of enhancing the university's brand presence.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)

  • Brainstorm, develop, and implement strategies with managers for creative marketing, advertising and promotional campaigns, goals, and objectives for the Campus Store and University Images; utilize effective marketing and promotional channels, including media platforms, to relay messages to stakeholders

  • Maintain promotional calendar and attend the university’s digital marketers meeting

  • Manage and monitor multiple websites, including the Campus Store, University Images, and Auxiliary using HTML editor and web design software; conduct content audits to eliminate redundant or outdated information

  • Collaborate with managers and staff to confirm websites align with brand strategy and are compliant with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines and University Accessible ICT policy.

  • Curate in-store and online merchandise to reflect changes in inventory or promotion; photograph merchandise, edit existing images, create and place price or descriptive signs as appropriate, delete discontinued merchandise and remove product images from servers and website.

  • Oversee and maintain all phone and web order fulfillment functions

  • Collaborate with managers and staff on strategies to grow web traffic metrics and increase conversion rates

  • Perform merchandising financial processes as necessary including but not limited to reporting financial aid sales, verifying and adding indexes to the merchandising specific inter account bills, verifying gift card activations, and requesting cash bags from Cash Hub

  • Greet and assist customers, respond to questions, and provide outstanding customer service to a diverse population of customers through mail, email, telephone, and in-person transactions

  • Open and close store and cash registers using point of sale system and assist with daily verification of sales, to include investigating and resolving discrepancies in reconciliation of payment tenders. Operate cash registers, manage financial transactions, and balance cash drawers (transaction types include scholarships, tuition, department charges, refunds, etc.)

  • Assist with sales month close and year end inventory process

  • Occasionally verify student ID cards for tuition charges and enable in CS Gold

  • Maintain security of confidential information

  • Assist with special projects related to store operations

  • Assist with all aspects of receiving shipments from vendors with accuracy when needed

  • Occasionally work irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required

  • Commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work. Actively engage in University continuous improvement initiatives

  • Apply safety-related knowledge, skills, and practices to everyday work

  • Other duties as assigned

Required Education, Certifications, Licensures (minimum requirements)

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Possess a valid US Driver License and meet Michigan Tech University’s vehicle use requirements

Required Experience (minimum requirements)

  • Minimum of five years retail experience

  • Minimum of five years office/clerical experience

  • Advanced computing experience

Desirable Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, web design, communications, related field, or five years of equivalent experience

  • Minimum of two years college retail experience

  • Proven work experience in marketing, website maintenance or similar role

  • Demonstrated experience with HTML, CSS and web development tools

  • Experience working with WinPrism/PrismCore, WPAdmin, Banner, CSGold, Canvas, and other university-related software

Required Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities (minimum requirements)

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Demonstrated attention to detail and excellent analytical skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

  • Ability to operate basic office equipment including personal computer, photocopy machine, printer, scanner, fax machine, and calculator

  • Advanced computer skills
