job summary:

Electrical and Instrumentation Designer opportunity with a specialty chemicals manufacturing client located in the South Houston area just outside the Beltway. Reporting to the Senior E&I Engineer this position will support the Capex team and be responsible for the Electrical and Instrumentation design throughout the full life cycle of projects. This work can include, but is not limited to, the development of one-lines, schematics, panel design, physical design plans, such as grounding plans, lighting plans, cable tray plans, cable and connection plans, as well as detailed material take-offs and bills of material. Some light scoping and estimating help on the front end as well as quality control help during the construction phase will also be needed.

responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the engineering team and independently to develop construction work packages including all necessary I/E project deliverables as determined by project scope and requirements

  • Identify problems and work creatively to resolve them, considering the impact on the project and internal company resources

  • Assist the project lead electrical engineer in management of document control and determining appropriate deliverables based on project scope

  • Effectively design and development one-lines, schematics, panel design, loop sheets, junction box drawings, instrument spec sheets, physical design plans, grounding plans, lighting plans, etc.

  • Interface with external and internal clients as required to complete project requirements.

  • Acquire field data necessary to prepare the appropriate design.

  • Effectively communicate with engineering staff and other disciplines to ensure the accurate design of electrical and instrumentation systems and equipment requirements

  • Other duties as required

Qualifications:

  • Associates Degree, Technical School Training or the equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Autodesk AutoCAD experience

  • Experience in low voltage electrical systems and instrumentation design

  • Willingness and ability to visit other plants in the local area as needed each week to work directly with those project teams for design and walkdowns

  • Willingness and ability to do some light scoping and estimating work on the front end and some quality control duties during the construction phase of the project

  • Must be self-motivated, results oriented, and be flexible to work well under tight schedules in a fast-paced multi-disciplinary team environment
