DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Works collaboratively within a larger team of GIS professionals to provide quality deliverables and analysis, applications, field verification, and data updates. This position is eligible for a hybrid schedule.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Proficient in ArcPro desktop software editing and mapping,

• Provides technical guidance and knowledge of the GIS Enterprise including Portal, and ArcGIS Online

• Design, create, or maintain data (e.g. standard qa/qc); provide maps, data, and reports to be utilized in decision-making processes

• Digitizes in the utility network water and wastewater systems, and provides QC for ongoing projects.

• Provides daily communication and efficient coordination of work activities with supervisor and team members.

• Provides support and delivery on GIS projects including mapping, analysis, applications, field verification, and data engineering.

• Promotes excellent customer service with productive stakeholder discussions and timely deliverables.

• Has a solid understanding of best practices regarding updating data in geodatabases including data development, design, and maintenance.

• Promotes quality data and customer service with productive stakeholder discussions.

• Provide technical guidance and knowledge on GIS technology or related geospatial topics to the team and Houston Public Works.

• Participates in the GIS On-Call weekly schedule to support outside business hours, and high-priority requests. Support includes digitizing, mapping, application support, and reporting under the guidance of a GIS Supervisor.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The position requires stooping, bending and/or lifting of items of up to 30 pounds with occasional periods of walking on rough surfaces.

This is a Department of Houston Public Works Management position at the Tier II Level .

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Requires a Bachelor's degree in Geographic Information Science, Planning, Geography, Computer Science or a closely related field.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

No experience is required.

Substitution:

Professional experience working with a comprehensive geographic information system may be substituted for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.
