MD Anderson Cancer Center Inspector, Threat & Criminal Investigations in Houston, Texas

The primary purpose of the Inspector position is to provide investigative expertise and oversight on a wide variety of criminal, administrative and/or background investigations. Responsible for conducting investigations while enforcing criminal laws and institutional regulations that promote the protection, safety and welfare of students, employees, patients, visitors, and all property within the areas under the control and jurisdiction of the University of Texas System. Serves as a Campus Security Authority as defined by the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus crime Statistics Act (Clery Act).

KEY FUNCTIONS

Leadership and Administration Provides leadership to and management of assigned personnel through clear direction, communications, development opportunities, and ongoing feedback. Manages the daily operations of the criminal, administrative, background investigations and/or threat management programs. Manages staff, including the selection process, coordination of work, performance and development. Maintains a strong working relationship with the universities' communication offices. Through the risk assessment process provides support to the institutional safety committee, 2 -stop committee, facilities management and off-site facility operations.

Investigations Can be called upon to manage major criminal matters, respond to and identify actual or perceived threats and oversee administrative and background investigations. Coordinates all investigations, including high risk compliance investigations in cooperation with Federal, State, County and local agencies. Represents the UTP-H to address relevant mitigation and interventions relative to threat management or targeted crime. Provides required and timely notification to the UTP-H command structure for dissemination to institution leadership and employees as appropriate.

Additional Crime Prevention Functions Conducts audits, assessments and analysis of criminal cases, immediate threats and post-event threats. Coordinates strategic, tactical plans and operations with Operations Bureau Commanders to address crime trends and criminal activities. Provides expertise to various community outreach and institutional groups. Provides direction and guidance to identify and develop training and education programs to internal and external audiences.

Other Duties as Assigned Other duties to include, but not limited to, emergency recall and/or may be required to remain onsite or work extended hours during man-made or natural disasters and unusual occurrences on campus. Local or long distance travel may be required for training or other business purposes occasionally.

Education Required: Bachelor's degree in Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice Management, Police Science, Business Administration.

Education Preferred : Doctor of Jurisprudence

Experience Required: Seven years of experience as a commissioned peace officer functioning as an investigator, detective, or intelligence officer at an agency/department of 75 or more commissioned police officers, to include three years of supervisory experience. Additional years of experience as an investigator, detective, or intelligence officer may be substituted for the required education on a one-to-one basis.

Preferred Experience: Nine years of experience in risk evaluation/threat assessment or law enforcement or general case investigations.

Onsite Presence: Is Required

Certification: All of the following: Commissioned/licensed peace officer for the State of Texas within 180 days of entry into job. Valid Class C Texas driver's license.

Preferred Certification: One or more of the following: Possess an advanced certificate from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Education; Certified Crime Prevention Specialist issued by the Texas Crime Prevention Association; Physical Security Professional (PSP) issued by American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS); Certified Healthcare Protection Administrator (CHPA) issued by International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS); Certified Safety Professional (CSP) issued by the Broad of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP); Certified Healthcare Safety Professional (CHSP) issued by the International Board for Certification of Safety Managers (BCHCM); Licensed to practice law in the State of Texas.

Successful completion of the LEADing Self Accelerate program may substitute for one year of required supervisory or management experience. Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources. All of the following: Commissioned/licensed peace officer for the State of Texas within 180 days of entry into job. Valid Class C Texas driver's license.
