The settlements analyst works to manage Oxy’s Power Generation with a focus on MISO and ERCOT. You will be responsible for settling and ensuring that the value of our power generation is accurately accounted for, as well as analyzing the data. You will use your analytical skills to collaborate with traders, analysts, asset managers, trade control, and plant personnel to ensure the best performance of our portfolio.  In addition, you will be responsible for the readiness of all systems, processes.

This high-performance position constantly interacts with the 24hr desk, operations personnel, electrical team personnel, natural gas desks, energy managers, co-gen asset managers, grid reliability coordinators at entities such as ERCOT and MISO and transmission operators (such as CenterPoint, Oncor and AEP), and others. Also, included in this responsibility is active participation in load, energy, congestion risk/markets/auctions. This position is in Houston, Texas.

 

Job Responsibilities

·         Responsible for processing, verifying and maintaining accurate data in the OPSI wholesale and OPM retail power systems of record. Act as liaison between trading & accounting to resolve all discrepancies.

·         Process daily settlement runs to create all settlement transactions. Reconcile wholesale and retail power systems to ISO statements to help ensure accuracy of month end accounting entries.  Ensure all costs are correctly allocated to the corresponding assets and retail business units. Work with front office to resolve issues in a timely manner.

·         Assist in the reconciliation and invoicing of managed assets and trading including settlement with associated power pools such as ERCOT and MISO.

·         Perform monthly and year end close processes. Create monthly wholesale and retail power estimates, process monthly accruals, perform volume related account reconciliations and reconcile transactions to the ISO statements.

·         Perform monthly checkout with bilateral counterparties, resolve settlement issues with front office, and send and receive invoices as necessary.  Process and track payments and assist in following up with all non-paying counterparties.

·         Resolve settlement disputes with the ISOs, monitor dispute status and reconcile dispute balances. 

·         Create and maintain Position & P/L reports for the assets under management consisting of generation and structure transactions.

·         Develop tools to perform generation and usage analysis for both OPSI and OPM as necessary.

·         Create reports and visualizations to help the Power group and its internal customers manage Oxy’s power requirements efficiently. 

·         Ability to learn and adapt, especially in a trading floor teamwork environment.

·         Work with other groups as items arise.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

·       Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business with 2-5 years of experience in Energy Markets

·       Self-starter with a basic knowledge of financial instruments and markets.

·       Excellent attention to detail and the ability to resolve discrepancies.

·       Working knowledge of software solutions and the ability to modernize and automate internal systems using tools such as Excel, Python, and other database query mechanisms.

·       Strong communication, analytical and interpersonal skills working in a team-oriented are critical.

·       Ability to work independently, and in groups, and handle multiple projects simultaneously.

·       Strong computer skills with database query tools such as Power BI and Spotfire

·        Excellent quantitative, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

·       Self-motivated worker who strives for positive results for the company. High initiative required to identify, prioritize, manage, and drive to completion items to advance the “desk.”

·       Possess refined interpersonal verbal and written communication skills, including writing, and video/telephone communication skills.

·       Ability to work in a high pressure, collaborative environment with both teamwork and independent work ethic and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

·       Procedural oriented with a drive for process improvements.

·       Solid organizational skills, with the ability to multitask, teach and be accountable in a team environment.
