POSITION OVERVIEW

PURPOSE OF DIVISION
The purpose of the Infrastructure Division is to manage the whole life cycle (planning, design, construction, commissioning, assessment of condition, modifying, replacing and decommissioning/disposal of physical and infrastructure Houston Airport System (HAS) assets consistent with environmental regulations and best management practices. In addition to the responsibilities related to physical assets, the Infrastructure Division manages the HAS portfolio of assets and resources, with a focused goal to improve project delivery to all Stakeholders.
Overall, the Infrastructure Division’s mission is to maintain and extend the effective life cycle of HAS’s physical assets and replace them when it is no longer financially feasible to extend the life of these assets, or they no longer support required Airport mission requirements.
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The Senior Architect will evaluate, manage and monitor the technical design and quality of systems and structures to achieve goals and objectives within established design parameters of airport system project(s), and all assets that span across one or more business unit(s), internally (HAS projects and assets), and externally (tenant projects).
Manages resources, schedules, financials, procurement and adheres to stage gate quality and HAS control guidelines throughout the full construction program and project development life cycle. Prepares required reports for Houston Airport System Directors, Stakeholders, business unit, and regulatory officials regularly to present and confirm projects and assets.

The Sr. Architect responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
Supervises section; schedules and reviews work, trains and evaluates employees.
Manages and coordinates design consultants.
Provides schematic/design development and construction documents to secure bids for in-house designs.
May oversee space allocation, land, and property acquisition and lease arrangements.
Organizes and directs construction and renovation activities.
Conducts technical reviews of plans and specifications to achieve program objectives.
Coordinates special programs, i.e., asbestos abatement and hazardous material removal, as they relate to all design and construction projects.
Assists in developing and evaluating proposals and budget allocations.
Creates interior design plans for in-house designs.
Acts as "last word" authority on evaluating technical quality.
Administers and monitors special improvement programs.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The position is physically comfortable; the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc. There are no major sources of discomfort, i.e., essentially normal office environment with acceptable lighting, temperature and air conditions. Requires the ability to make closely coordinated eye/hand movements within very fine tolerance and/or calibration demands; or the ability to make rapid closely coordinated eye/hand movements on a patterned response space within somewhat fine tolerance demands; or the ability to make coordinated eye/hand movements within fine tolerances with large equipment as an extension of the worker.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires an Architectural degree, which is accredited by the Texas Board of Architectural Examiners.
Must be registered as an Architect with the State of Texas Board of Architectural Examiners.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Six years of professional experience in Architecture are required.
PREFERENCES
Experience in leading groups, presenting ideas, resulting in group collaboration and consensus.
Knowledge of the building codes adopted by the City of Houston.
Knowledge of Accessibility, ADA and TAS requirements.
Knowledge of Sustainability, LEED, and Energy initiatives.
Knowledge of and experience with Project Management processes.
Knowledge of Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Structural, and Civil disciplines.
Experience in taking leadership in boards, commissions, community, and organizational bodies.
Experience in public speaking and presentation in group settings.
Knowledge and understanding of design and software such as Microsoft Word, SharePoint, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, Revit, BIM, Microsoft Project, Primavera P6 and other scheduling and estimating software.
High level proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Experience in airport design and/or aviation facilities or with other complex facilities Preferred.
Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.
