Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Senior Chemical Process Engineers play a pivotal role in the successful operation of our plants and are responsible for initiating and leading improvements to unit performance in safety, production, and reliability in a dynamic team environment.

  • He/She will think strategically, execute thoughtfully, and collaborate across many teams, levels, and situations.

  • In this role, he/she will serve as a senior process technical resource, providing technical and operational expertise to address complex processes across business teams.

  • Mentoring less experienced engineers on design practices, unit health monitoring, and troubleshooting

  • Provide off-hours support of abnormal and non-routine operations, including unit Turnarounds

  • Aiding in the development of long term vision and strategy for product line improvements

  • Organizing and designing plant testing and product trials

  • Serve as a senior resource either serving as or working with supervisors on the team to set clear objectives, and ensure priorities are aligned for the technical team

  • Influence others and drive toward solutions without direct authority

  • Work in a team environment with other engineering disciplines, operations, and mechanical personnel and interface with corporate technology support

  • Ability to interface with 3rd party vendors (cost optimizations as well as developing/driving solutions)

  • Serve as process safety resource on business team leading Hazard and Operability Reviews (HAZOPs) and Risk Assessments by developing closure plans and strategies for identified risks

  • Lead/support incident investigations as technical lead

  • Provide support for developing and implementing various capital projects to drive margin or mitigate SHE risk

  • Provide assistance in the field during plant startups, shutdowns or upsets

  • Demonstrating courage of conviction to drive healthy tension for both business team and corporate technology support to promote fit for purpose outcome

Required Skills (Technical Competency):

  • B.S. Chemical Engineering

  • 10+ years of experience in Chemical Engineering plant with technical fuels/ chemicals manufacturing roles.

  • Process design experience

  • Working knowledge of RBI practices (corrosion damage mechanisms/mitigations, saltation, etc)

  • Risk assessment and HAZOP experience

  • Understanding of safety relief limits (modelling and evaluations)

Desired Skills:

  • Familiarity with advanced control strategies/optimization software

  • Demonstrated understanding of modelling software (PROII, ASPEN, etc)

  • Kinetic Modelling (SOL, KBC Profimatics, etc)

Physical Requirements & Work Environment:

  • Mostly Office Environments, Occasional Shop Floor involvement.

  • Substantial amounts of telephone and computer work.

  • Heavily Regulated Industries with strict adherence to procedures.

  • Flexibility to meet business deadlines by staying late or arriving early.

  • Typical 8 hour days plus lunch / 40 hour weeks / core (required) hours are 9AM to 4PM

  • Ability to use personal transportation to visit customer locations.
