Ballard Community School District, a district with approximately 1700 students located minutes from Ames and the Des Moines metro, has guidance counselor position available for the 2024-2025 school year. Teaching positions have 190-day contracts. Basic Function : Provide a well-planned educational program that meets the individual needs of students, establish an effective rapport with students, motivating them to develop skills and knowledge while continuously monitoring students’ progress towards meeting the learning goals of the district.
Essential Functions :
Provides direct services meeting with groups, and individuals, meet/confer and counsel with parents, school personnel, and members of various youth-serving agencies in developing alternative solutions to student educational, social, and emotional problems and concerns.
Provide individualized guidance to help students create academic plans, navigate career choices, and address personal challenges .
Implement guidance curriculum.
Conduct classroom guidance activities in each teacher’s class and/or systematically conduct developmental counseling groups for each grade level throughout the year.
Assist with integration of new students
Assist specialists and consultants in identifying and working with students with special needs.
Prepare for and participate in parent-teacher conferences as needed
Prepare all reports required by the principal or superintendent in a timely manner.
Provide individual or group counseling.
Assist with development of building schedule as needed.
Coordinate development, implementation, and maintenance of 504 Plans.
Register students for classes, including making necessary changes.
Arrange conferences with all seniors during the first quarter of their senior year.
Coordinate visits with college representatives, military representatives, and local employers.
Utilize instructional techniques and methodology, which are research-based and consistent with recognized educational practices.
Implement a program of study, which incorporates the District approved curriculum and that meets individual student needs, interests, and abilities.
Create an educational environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
Work with students in acquiring knowledge about and effective use of skills when interacting in the home, academic, and peer environments.
Employ research-based instruction methods while using materials that are appropriate for meeting stated objectives.
Abide by and enforce all applicable laws relating to diversity.
Maintain high integrity and confidentiality in the school operation.
Be knowledgeable of and abide by all school board policies, procedures, and other applicable laws.
Cooperate with and work in a courteous manner with co-workers and other personnel.
Dress appropriately for the position and work required.
Demonstrate a positive attitude toward school, students, and job and communicate the same to the community.
Accept constructive criticism and suggestions and seek to improve each performance responsibility.
Demonstrate organization and professionalism in fulfilling the responsibilities of the job.
