We are the Windows Servicing and Delivery (WSD) organization. We deliver updates to every Windows-based device in the world to protect users and enable them to be productive. While Security remains our primary focus, we also enable our commercial and enterprise customers by enabling new device support, addressing reliability and upgrade blocking issues. Our work is critical for the Windows family of devices, Surface Hub, HoloLens, Azure and more. We are an agile team and ship twice every month, impacting over a billion Windows devices in the ecosystem. Our global team reflects our global customer base, and towards this end we are expanding with a new team in IDC Hyderabad. You will collaborate with your teammates in IDC, and your partner teams in Ireland and Redmond, Washington, USA.

We are looking for motivated and talented individuals to design and deliver quality AI solutions. As an engineer, you will play a critical role in the team. You will need to understand the design, code, and features of many different areas, quickly come up to speed and deliver features with attention to detail and responsiveness. You must be able to design services that are highly scale, low latency, always on, low cost to maintain and operate. You should be able to influence other developers to come up with the right design and architecture for their components and make them the model for common patterns going forward. You must have good partnership and influencing skills to be able to work across multiple teams.

Our Cross-Platform Currency (CPC) team is responsible for creating the tools and processes that keep Windows up to date, ensuring that users have the most up-to-date features and security possible. We are looking for highly motivated Senior Data and Applied Scientist to help reimagine traditional update systems and processes, as well as the redesign of updates from the ground up shifting to a modern, scalable, Azure-based solutions.

Responsibilities

• Delivering high quality AI powered solutions for internal and external customer requirements.

• Engage with key partners to understand state-of-the-art LLMs and ML models, run them at scale in a performant and cost-effective manner.

• Anticipate, identify, assess, track, and mitigate project risks and issues in a fast-paced start up like environment.

• Motivated to build constructive and effective relationships and solve problems collaboratively.

• Anticipate, identify, assess, track, and mitigate project risks and issues in a fast-paced start up like environment.

• Drive thought leadership, architecture and high scale, high throughput, low latency inferencing.

• Contribute to all phases (design, prototype, implement, test) of our modern, scalable, AI solutions.

• Apply advanced analytical and modeling methods to improve software development processes and code quality.

• Participate in code reviews, unit testing, and other quality assurance activities.

• Mentor junior engineers and data scientists, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous learning.

• Working cross-team to integrate with partner teams and their systems.

• Recognize manual work to propose and implement solutions to improve the efficiency of the team.

• Understand requirements and create complete design specifications.

• Prioritizing your collection of work and delivering fixes in a timely fashion to meet deadlines.

Qualifications

• Bachelors or master’s in computer science, data science, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience.

• 8+ years of professional software development experience with 4+ years focus on AI and machine learning applications.

• Experience in building enterprise grade applications in C++/C#, Python, and experience with frameworks like PyTorch or TensorFlow.

• Experience with natural language processing, generative AI, or related field.

• Experience of working with generative AI models, LLMs (GPT, Mistral, other Azure/hugging face models)

• Proven design and problem-solving skills, with an emphasis on quality and engineering excellence.

• Experienced building and maintaining a mature service - CI/CD, scalability, reliability, incident management.

• Proven communication skills, both verbal and written.

Preferred:

• Knowledge and understanding SLM (Small Language Models) and TLM (Tiny Language Models).

• Knowledge of Azure technologies (Service Fabric, Logic Apps, Azure SQL, Azure Storage) and Microsoft Stack (C#, SQL, ASP.NET)

• Platform and capability development experience in Azure/Cloud strong plus

• Contributions to open-source projects or published research in relevant areas.

• Expertise in a big data system such as Spark, Hadoop, Yarn.

• Experience in working with micro-services architecture.

• Experience with agile/scrum methodologies.
