Description
WWASFT is seeking an experienced Software Development Manager to lead a new 2-pizza team for PLANet, focusing on building technical solutions for multi-billion dollar, World Wide Operational Cost analytics and planning.
As a Software Development Manager, you will guide your team in developing systems that analyze large amounts of data and create one-click analysis capabilities that impact multi-billion dollar decisions. You will work with a global team to build technical APIs and web-based solutions using Big Data, Machine Learning, AWS technologies, and Microservices Architecture.
The ideal candidate will thrive in environments with high degrees of ambiguity and enjoy solving novel technical challenges at scale. You will have significant autonomy and ownership while working with diverse teams across Amazon's organization .

Drive technical innovation and architectural decisions
Build systems that automate problem diagnosis and issue resolution
Develop solutions that ensure the highest availability and lowest latency
Expand and develop a team of skilled builders while understanding operational needs
The position requires excellent written and verbal communication skills, with proven ability to present complex technical information clearly to various audiences . The SDM must be experienced in iterative processes like SCRUM and demonstrate continuous improvement in development processes . They should be capable of identifying and rectifying gaps and bottlenecks in team solutions while breaking through ambiguity with appropriate prioritization .

Key job responsibilities
Your responsibilities include:
Leading the design, development, and deployment of highly scalable distributed services
Working closely with Product Managers and stakeholders across Amazon
Building and mentoring a high-performing software development team
Ensuring operational excellence through automated systems and robust architecture
Work within a global team to support World Wide Operations and expand current solutions
A day in the life
On a day-to-day basis, you'll be part of a small, close-knit team of engineers that are agile, data driven, and highly collaborative. You’ll help analyze cost patterns and models, propose ideas and design solutions to some of the most complex problems.
About the team
As an SDM, you will lead a dedicated team of Software Development Engineers supporting the Planning product portfolio for WW Ops Finance. A significant part of your day involves working closely with the team on the Planning product backlog, overseeing architecture decisions, and ensuring robust end-to-end product quality. You will participate in customer discovery sessions and demo/feedback meetings, working alongside the S&A PM team to refine feature requirements and evaluate technology trade-offs.
Basic Qualifications
3+ years of engineering team management experience
7+ years of engineering experience
8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
Experience partnering with product or program management teams
Experience designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
