Flynn Restaurant Group Manager, Financial Accounting and Reporting in INDEPENDENCE, Ohio

Position Description

Reporting to the Senior Manager of Financial Accounting & Reporting and supporting the Director of Financial Accounting & Reporting, the Manager of Financial Accounting & Reporting is a key financial leader responsible for the financial accounting and reporting needs of designated operating entities and the development and implementation of related systems, controls, procedures, and policies. Accountabilities include direct supervision and development of accounting & reporting team(s), overseeing timely and accurate production and issuance of period-ending financial statements, ad-hoc client service and acting as the lead point person with Senior Leadership on their designated brand(s), and reporting and analysis to provide business results and insights. Accountabilities also include ensuring compliance with accounting policies and operational procedures, informing and supporting the annual budgeting process, assisting with the annual independent financial audit, identification and implementation of process improvements and efficiencies, research and resolution of accounting issues as they arise, and assisting with projects as assigned including but not limited to acquisition financial due diligence and integration.

Essential responsibilities will include:

Policies, Procedures and Administration

  • Develop, manage, and mentor brand team(s) within Financial Accounting & Reporting, including hiring, training, evaluation, and development.

  • Ensure adherence of current and future accounting policies and procedures.

  • Monitor new and proposed accounting pronouncements and assist in determining impact on company.

  • Document and communicate company accounting policies to appropriate individuals.

  • Participate in the development and execution of annual departmental initiatives and goals.

  • Develop and monitor metrics to measure performance and benchmark department.

Financial Statements

  • Coordinate and oversee monthly financial close and issuance of financial statements (income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow) for the assigned operating entities.

  • Partner cross-functionally with other Finance & Accounting departments on issuing accurate and timely financial statements.

  • Coordinate and oversee performance of analytical review procedures on month-end income statement and balance sheet accounts including account reconciliations.

  • Provide management with a timely review and analysis of financial results and progress in its various goals and targets.

  • Communicate accounting issues to Senior Leadership and assist in determining options to address and resolve issues.

  • Partner cross-functionally with FP&A and Operations on the compilation of the annual budget.

  • Assist with the annual financial statement audit and subsequent reports.

  • Maintain and monitor financial reporting calendar.

Systems Development and Process Improvements

  • Assist with maintenance and design of month-end financial reports.

  • Assist with maintenance and evaluation of reporting systems including general ledger and financial reporting.

  • Perform continuous assessment of close process and process re-engineering to reduce the timing to close and improve efficiency.

Internal and External Reporting Requirements

Coordinate, oversee, and produce issuance of:

  • Financial reporting packages for senior executives, financial institutions, and the board.

  • Financial information for the annual financial statement audit.

  • Financial information for the annual budgeting process.

  • Financial information for quarterly bank covenants and debt refinancing.

  • Financial data for franchisor reporting portal.

  • Financial data for landlord reporting requirements.

  • Other ad-hoc reporting as assigned.

Other

  • Assist with acquisitions including due diligence, training, integration, and staffing.

  • Special projects as assigned.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Qualified professionals must have a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance along with 7-10 years of either Public Accounting experience with a Big 4 or large Regional CPA firm and/or financial analysis experience for a large company in their corporate offices.

  • CPA or MBA is preferred, but not required.

  • Must possess strong analytical as well as audit/research documentation skills.

  • Comprehension of the monthly closing process and accurate financial statement preparation.

  • Must possess strong Excel skills as well as demonstrated proficiency with general ledger accounting and financial reporting; SAP experience is preferred but not required.

  • Must possess strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Must possess the ability to multi- task and work under tight deadlines.

  • Must possess strong leadership skills and the ability and desire to manage and develop people.

  • Must possess strategic and problem-solving skills with a forward-thinking, adaptable, and continuous-improvement mindset.

  • Must possess personal drive, energy, and ownership.
