Job Title: ReadUPReadingSpecialist Department: Impact Team Reports to: Early Care and Learning Director FLSA Status: Non-exempt, hourly Assignment Length: Mid August- Early May;approximately8- 10hours/week Salary Range: $35/hour

Summary and Scope

ReadUPis a tutoring programthattargetsthirdgrade studentswho aretwelveto eighteen monthsbehind in reading.Tutors are volunteers whodedicate one hour of their time per weektoreadone-on-one with two students for thirty minutes each.ReadUPtakes place three days a weekat various schools throughout Central Indiana.The Reading Specialistis responsible forassistancewith program implementation at the school,monitoringstudent progress, and providing support and feedback to volunteer tutors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direction of theEarly Care and Learning Director and the Manager ofReadUP, the Reading Specialist will:

  • Travel to assigned schools3 timesperweek(mileage stipend provided)

``` - Communicate regularly with volunteer tutorsvia email(and occasionally phone)regardingschedules, tutor absences, and other program information

``` - Monitor student progress,update reading levels regularly, andsubmitregular reports to UWCI

```{=html}

``` - Monitor student/tutor interactions and provide tutor feedback and support accordingly

```{=html}

``` - Track tutor and student attendance, andsubmitregular reports to UWCI

```{=html}

``` - Assistwith administration and collection of program surveys

```{=html}

``` - AttendregularReading Specialist meetings

```{=html}

``` - Monitor program supplies and update/reorganize supplies as needed

```{=html}

``` - Plan and host holiday and end-of-year recognition events for students and volunteers(fundingprovided by UWCI)

``` - Attend and help coordinateadditionalprogram-related events outside of regular program time, as able and as approved by UWCI staff

Supervisory Responsibilities

None

Qualifications

Ideal candidateswillpossessa degree in Education and at leastfiveyears of classroom experience (preferablyinelementary) andwill be knowledgeable onbest practices in reading.

Education and/or Experience

ABachelors ofArtsin Education or related fieldis preferred. Work experience may substitute for education.
