Summary:

Allison Transmission, the world's largest manufacturer of fully automatic transmissions for medium- and heavy-duty commercial vehicles, is seeking an experienced professional to fill a Supplier Quality Engineer position within its Procurement team. The Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) offers support as a liaison between Purchasing, Engineering, Operations and suppliers to develop suppliers, lead and support program launch readiness, resolve supplier quality issues and to provide technical support. The SQE routinely communicates supplier part quality issues and supports the investigation of supplier quality problems and coordinates implementation of effective and timely resolutions. The SQE is responsible to review and audit supplier manufacturing processes and quality systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Is the liaison between Purchasing, Engineering, Operations, and suppliers to resolve supplier quality issues and to provide technical support. Supports investigation of supplier quality problems and coordinates implementation of effective and timely resolutions.

  • Assists suppliers in the development of new programs and change management through APQP processes to PPAP approval and Safe Launch

  • Monitors supplier performance and reports results to management

  • Performs periodic assessments and on-site audits at suppliers

  • Champions support for documentation of the problem solving steps (containment, root cause and corrective action) when supplier quality notifications are issued to suppliers

  • Coordinates containment activities to minimize supplied part quality impact to the Plants

  • Completes special activities and assignments as requested.

  • Manages supplier cost recovery requests issued by the Plants

  • Improves quality performance of supplier by conducting workshops at supplier locations, providing technical assistance in developing a quality system, or other technical support required

  • Manages ongoing supplier relationships and resolves conflicts as needed

  • Adheres to corporate purchasing policies and procedures

  • Ensures required supplier quality documentation is organized and retained according to corporate guidelines

  • Assures accurate and timely records are maintained within various systems, including supplier quality notifications (8Ds), SAP ERP, and online Production Part Approval Process (PPAP)

  • Mentors other less experienced employees in supplier quality processes and standards.

  • Maintains a physical presence in the workplace.

  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time as needed.

Required:

  • Experienced and proficient in effective oral and written communication in cross-functional environments.

  • Proven ability to organize, plan, document tasks and prioritize work.

  • Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with others.

  • Strong analytical capability where problems are complex. High level of analytical ability to assess and identify appropriate alternative courses of action for definition and resolution of problems that are somewhat unique and diverse.

  • Wide degree of creativity and latitude.

  • Knowledge of statistical quality control techniques.

  • Knowledge of electronics manufacturing and assembly processes.

  • Knowledge of manufacturing or automotive quality standards.

  • Experience with Purchasing / Global Supply Chain concepts.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

  • Proficient in AIAG standards – APQP, Control Plans, FMEA, PPAP, SPC, and MSA.

  • Proficient in the automotive industry 8D problem solving tool.

Preferred:

  • Experience with geometric design and tolerancing (GD&T).

  • Experience in project management.

  • Experience in electronics and heavy-duty automotive industry.

  • Experience in Automotive Electrification and Power Electronics programs.

  • Familiar with SAP software.

  • ASQ certified Quality Engineer (CQE).

  • Certified Six Sigma Green Belt.

  • Certified Six Sigma Black Belt.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor Degree - Electrical, Electronics, Electromechanical or Mechatronics Engineering

Experience:

  • 5+ years experience in Supplier Quality Engineer role or similar.
