Physical Plant Tech. This position is in support of a Department of Defense (DoD) organization, CJTF-HOA located OCONUS in DJIBOUTI, Africa. This position is required to travel OCONUS.

The successful candidate must be able to communicate clearly and succinctly both written and orally, and present products and ideas in a business-like manner. The candidate will be required to work in dynamic fast paced environments that require team interaction and coordination of efforts. The Physical Plant Technician will play a crucial role providing O&M and life cycle support to include, inspecting, splicing, testing, repairing, replacing, upgrading and providing documentation for both copper and fiber optic backbone and distribution systems identified by the COR. Understand and perform OSP functions IAW standards, codes and regulations ie National Electrical Codes, (NEC), Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) and OSHA Standards. Be able to identify, document and request downtimes as required on all physical plant cable installations. Communications manhole system infrastructure drawings and butterfly updates/revisions. SME review of CLDJ Excavation Permits. Maintain an inventory of spare parts and materials. Gas Free testers prior to entry of a manhole system. Must be able to manufacture CAT 3 and CAT 6 cabling. Experience with outside plant, plastic sheathed, copper telephone cable ranging from 25 to 2,400 pairs and outside plant, multi/single mode, fiber optic cable ranging from 12 to 288 strands is essential. The individual must have color vision to read color-codes and be able to trace color-coded pairs/strands. Recent experience is defined that the individual is currently, within the past year, performing outside plant cable technician/installation duties. Minimum of 2 years’ experience (with at least 1 year within the last 3 years) with splicing outside plant, plastic sheathed, copper telephone cable using 710, MS2, AMP and scotch lock splicing techniques. Individual’s experience must demonstrate the use of different types of splice closures to seal spliced copper cable. Individual’s experience must demonstrate capability to terminate copper cable using terminal types to include 110, 66M and Central Office distribution frame. Copper cable experience shall demonstrate that the individual has worked with outside plant cables having pair counts ranging from 25 to 2,400 pairs. Supervise and coordinate the activities of Physical Plant department, ensuring that work is completed efficiently and according to established standards.

You’ll Bring These Qualifications:

Currently hold an adjudicated Secret and be able to maintain.

DoD 8570 IAT Level II compliance (Security + Certification, equal or higher)

BA/BS +1 yrs recent specialized or AA/AS +3 yrs recent specialized or a major cert + 7 yrs recent specialized or 5 years of recent specialized (Physical Plant)

Fiber Optic experience desired

Must be willing/able to work OCONUS for minimum of one year

Read and understand Blueprints in both hard copy and softcopy using AutoCAD.

Understand Fiber splicing tools, procedures, and methods for ordering supplies.

Installation of OSP within the DoD and Naval shore installation practices.

MS VISIO and AutoCAD experience to maintain network and cable records.

Have basic understanding in OSP installation practices.

These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:

Current Certified Fiber Optic Specialist (CFOS)

Certified Fiber Optics Installer (CFOI) or Fiber Optics Technician (FOT)

Certification from the Fiber Optic Association (FOA) or the Electronics Technician Association International (ETA-I), or an equivalent training certification from an accredited technical/trade/service school certifying Fiber Optic training and qualifications in accordance with NECA 301-2004 Installation and Testing of Fiber Optic cable standards.

The proposed salary range for this position is:

$56,000-$117,500
