External Relations Specialist - CVM (Hybrid)

As the External Relations Specialist, you will play a key role in enhancing the visibility and reputation of CVM. Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Marketing & Communications, you will develop and lead communication strategies that effectively promote our mission and achievements to a global audience. This role involves close collaboration with Cornell University's central communications teams to ensure consistency and excellence in our outreach efforts.


Key Responsibilities:

New Media:

  • Lead new media strategies to elevate CVM's global presence.
  • Create engaging content that tells the story of our work and impact.
  • Explore emerging platforms to extend our marketing efforts.
  • Collaborate with University Relations' New Media team for best practices.

Media Relations:

  • Manage media relations with veterinary and trade media.
  • Work with University Relations' Media Relations team to ensure consistent messaging.

Inclusive Communication:

  • Ensure all communications reflect our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Metrics and Analysis:

  • Track and analyze communication metrics and provide recommendations for improvement

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, or a related field, with 3-5 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Expertise in social media outreach and website management.
  • Strong content creation and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and collaborate effectively.
  • A commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing in all aspects of work.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in an academic environment.
  • Creative and graphic design skills.
  • Experience in life sciences, particularly veterinary medicine.

Important Details about the Position

  • This is a Hybrid position with an expectation of at least 3 days from the office located in Ithaca, NY. Please note that during the initial training period there will be an expectation of working full time (5 days a week) from the office.
