Eaton Corporation Lead Metallurgist in Jackson, Mississippi

Eaton’s IS AER FMC division is currently seeking a Lead Metallurgist. This position is based at our Jackson, MS location. Relocation assistance is provided.

The Jackson facility has approximately 500 employees and is a leader in the design, development, manufacture and delivery of Aerospace hydraulic components, systems and services to the global aftermarket and OEM markets.

The expected annual salary range for this role is $80250.03 - $117700.04 a year.

The Lead Metallurgist is responsible for performance of laboratory research duties in metallurgical analyses according to assignments that require ability to interpret, adapt, and apply predetermined company standards in metallurgical analyses of production. This role ensures that all raw materials and heat-treated parts conform to company specifications. Heavy emphasis is placed on external contacts with heat treat vendors, heat treatment equipment manufacturers, and steel manufacturers.

What you’ll do:

  • Check casting and forging for quality and hardness, structure, and soundness in relation to conformity with specifications.

  • Ensure maintenance of heat-treat quality standards through consistent monitoring and communication with the team.

  • Audit quality of heat-treating, plating, or other processing operations to performance specifications to maintain company quality standards.

  • Coordinate quality control activities related to metallurgical, chemical, or physical testing with other departments (e.g., Resident Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Purchasing, Manufacturing, and Production) to promote the best interests of the company with regard to quality and efficiency.

  • Sign-off for approval of job instruction sheets for the heat treatment or special surface treatment of parts or materials.

  • Perform metallurgical inspection of materials returned in conjunction with customer complaints to determine need for material improvement and justification of warranty claims.

  • Assist Manager of Quality Control on a broad range of general quality programs providing particular assistance on metallurgical and chemical phrases of programs.

  • Confer with vendors and laboratories that supply metallurgical services relative to quality, specifications, and other like matters.

Qualifications:

Required (Basic) Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgy, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Chemistry, or Physics from an accredited institution or obtaining the aforementioned bachelor's degree by May 2024.

  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in quality, design engineering dealing with complex assembly products or a technical field working with quality management systems (AS9100, ISO 9001, TS16949) including internships and/or co-op experience.

  • This position requires use of information or access to hardware which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). All applicants must be U.S. persons within the meaning of ITAR. ITAR defines a U.S. person as a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship now or in the future.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working under Federal Aviation Administration regulations for Repair Station work.
