Army National Guard Units EQUIPMENT SPECIALIST (TITLE 32) in Jefferson City, Missouri

Summary THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is a GS-1670-09 EQUIPMENT SPECIALIST (TITLE 32), Position Description Number D1257000 and is part of the MO Combined Support Maintenance Shop. APPOINTMENT FACTORS: This position is a Temporary vacancy NTE one year in the Excepted Service. This is a bargaining unit position. SEE NOTES UNDER CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT BELOW Responsibilities Serves as a recognized authority on the repair and operation of various types of ARNG equipment. Provides instruction and assistance regarding equipment maintenance procedures, techniques, and methods as a part of the Maintenance Assistance and Instruction Team (MAIT). Provides advice, assistance, and guidance regarding maintenance management systems, material readiness programs, cost reduction programs, and maintenance shop practices in maintenance facilities. Receives reviews, and processes unit Army Material Status System (AMSS) reports and Missile Material Readiness reports and submits a consolidated report to the Logistics Support Activity (LOGSA). Prepares and conducts both classroom and on-the-job training designed to upgrade, improve, and/or update the knowledge and working skills of unit maintenance personnel. Develops, writes, updates, and teaches units of instruction for new equipment training. Evaluates training progress in areas such as basic mechanic principles; theories of equipment repair and modification; compliance with established procedures and directives. Evaluates requirements for equipment maintenance records and reports; and proper utilization of equipment, personnel, funds, and facilities. Evaluates directives to ensure adherence to standard methods, conformity in maintenance procedures, and the proper use of maintenance equipment, facilities, and personnel. Reviews the effectiveness and efficiency of equipment and maintenance management and needs for improvement of existing practices and the impact on the overall maintenance program. Reviews and evaluates information in technical reports, logistical studies, supply data systems, and observations/inspections of maintenance organizations. Provides methods for improving, consolidating, simplifying, and standardizing operations and management of maintenance activities. Performs assistance visits to logistic and maintenance functional areas to provide guidance and assistance to ensure effective and smooth maintenance operations. Performs hands on maintenance procedures to personnel on proper trade techniques, practices, and explains safety precautions involved in maintenance. Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications MILITARY REQUIREMENTS: Since the position is temporary in nature, the compatibility requirements will be waived for a period of time not to exceed one year. Selecting official must verify that selected individual is currently assigned to a military unit in the Missouri National Guard and that the selection does not create grade inversion. Maximum Military Grade - 1SG (E-8) Minimum Military Grade - SPC (E-4) Title 32 National Guard employees will not be militarily senior to their full-time supervisor (grade inversion). GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Must possess experience, education, or training which has provided you with knowledge of one or more classes of equipment. The experience must include knowledge of standard shop terminology. A basic knowledge of mechanical principles relating to equipment. Experience must demonstrate the ability to read and interpret blue prints and technical publications. Knowledge is of the type gained from technical training, education, and experience in functions such as repairing, overhauling, maintaining, constructing, or inspecting equipment. Experience using computer and automation systems. GS-09 SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must possess 24 months of specialized experience that demonstrates knowledge of principles, concepts, and methods of equipment maintenance and management on a variety of Army equipment sufficient to provide advice, assistance and guidance to unit personnel. The specialized experience must also demonstrate your ability to ability to instruct and provide classroom training involving equipment repair and modification; requirements for equipment records and reports; and proper utilization and maintenance of equipment and facilities. Education This job does not have a qualification requirement that allows substitution of education for specialized experience.
