Responsibilities

Work Schedule:

Work schedule shall be0730-1630 Monday-Friday to include a one-hour uncompensated meal break.

Core Duties: The duties include, but are not limited to the following;

Serves as an Acupuncturist offering a full array of the most current and emerging evidence-based Integrative Medicine approaches for patients with acute and chronic pain who have not responded well to conventional treatment modalities in accordance with the scope of clinical privileges granted by the MTF. The purpose of the work is to restore maximum health, functional independence, and productivity to patients with various acute and chronic pain conditions.

• Examine all patients prior to initiating a treatment procedure or providing appropriate services. Determines if acupuncture is suitable for the patient by questioning, observing, and examining patients as well as reviewing patient’s drug therapies, health, and medical histories. Obtains patients’ medical histories.

• Provide appropriate therapeutic procedures and provide a full range of therapy services in support of patient referrals. Acupuncture involves the piercing of the skin by insertion of needles at specific points on or near the surface of the body in order to restore and normalize physiological functions, prevent, or modify the perception of pain.

• Performs the full scope of acupuncture services for eligible beneficiaries. Duties involve the care and treatment of various illnesses, diseases, and pain management to improve well-being by the application of acupuncture and other Chinese medicine modalities such as electro-acupuncture, acupressure, cupping (stationary, moving and bleeding cupping), moxibustion, and visualization techniques. Acupuncture can be applied to a wide range of health conditions including acute and chronic pain, physical injury, arthritis, headaches, lateral and medial epicondylitis, rotator cuff strains, tendonitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, as well as general conditions such as allergies, musculoskeletal disorders, respiratory and circulatory disorders, gastro-intestinal problems, neurological, and anxiety disorders.

• Counsels’ patients on nutrition, exercise, sleeping habits, stress management, and other matters related to acupuncture care.

• All patient contact and care shall be safe, timely, result in achievement of realistic and documented treatment goals, and comply with or satisfy the intent of the referring medical staff.

• Plan and prepare written treatment programs based on an evaluation of the patient.

• Applicant shall possess effective communication skills to verbalize treatment planning recommendations and function as an effective multidisciplinary team member in resolving inter- professional differences.

• Record treatment, response, and progress in patient's AHLTA chart. Patient encounters shall be completed within 3 days (72 hours) of the appointment.

• Advises patient about recommended courses of treatment and follow-up care. Instruct patient and family in treatment procedures to be continued at home.

• Coordinate treatment with physician and other staff members to obtain additional patient information, suggest revisions in treatment program, and integrate acupuncture treatment with other aspects of the patient's health care. Contact referring physicians regarding patient care concerns, as indicated.

• Provide documented treatment and discharge recommendations to members of the staff in routine, emergency, and special cases as needed.

• Provide input and attend team meetings, seminars, and quality assurance meetings. Serves as a member of a multidisciplinary team to provide assessments, planning, implementation, coordination, evaluation, and monitoring of patients for health options and services.

• Participate in peer review activities.

• Provide clinical supervision to assistants, technicians, aides, and students.

• Serves as consultant to leadership on acupuncture care.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

* Education: Graduate of an Acupuncture Program accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (ACAOM) or a certified medical acupuncturist.

  • Experience: Two years’ experience within the past three years in an active acupuncture health care practice in which he/she consistently administered both diagnosis and treatment services. Preferred experience with providing services to individuals with pain and/or medical conditions.

* Licensure: Current, unrestricted license to practice acupuncture in any one of the fifty States, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam, or the U.S. Virgin Islands. Shall be a member in good standing with the State Board of Acupuncture Examiners in the state which he/she currently practices with no current acupuncture license restrictions.

* Life Support Certification: Possess and maintain a current AHA or ARC BLS Healthcare Provider certification.

* Security: Must possess ability to pass a Government background check/security clearance.
