City of Kalamazoo Summer Camp Site Supervisor in Kalamazoo, Michigan

Description/Distinguishing Features

The City of Kalamazoo Parks and Recreation Department is looking for dependable and responsible day operations of the campsite and ensuring that everything runs smoothly. You would also be focused on creating a positive and engaging atmosphere for campers and staff. Your goal is to create a memorable and enjoyable experience for campers and staff alike. By being approachable, creative, and fostering a positive environment, you can help ensure that everyone has a great time at camp.

This is seasonal/temporary employment, which will not exceed six (6) months in duration.

Examples of Duties
  • Supervising camp staff: You will be responsible for managing and supervising a team of camp counselors, ensuring that they are providing quality care for campers and following camp policies and procedures.
  • Managing camp operations: You will oversee the scheduling of activities, field trips, and our guest visitors who bring activities to your campsite.
  • Maintaining camp facilities: You will ensure that the campsite is clean, safe, and well-maintained, and that all equipment and facilities are in good working order.
  • Ensuring camper safety: You will implement safety policies and procedures to ensure the well-being of campers and staff.
  • Handling camper issues: You will be responsible for handling any camper issues or concerns that arise and working with parents/guardians to address any problems that may arise.
  • Communicating with campers and parents: You will communicate with campers and parents before and during the camp session to ensure that they are informed about camp policies and activities. 
Essential Qualifications
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must possess valid driver license.
  • Must be CPR/First Aid certified.  A training on Saturday May 27th at 9 a.m. is available if not currently certified.
  • Must be able to work from May 22nd -- August 11th, 2023 (unless prior arrangements have been made)
Acceptable Training and Experience

All training is provided. Prior experience working with youth or working towards a degree in a youth field is highly preferred.
