Job Description Summary:

This is a full-time position (100% FTE) for a Research Assistant (Trainer) position supporting multiple projects aimed to serve individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities (e.g. children, adolescents, and adults), their families, and the systems that support them.

The primary focus will be on delivery of in-person and virtual trainings on evidenced-based practices for both caregivers and providers.

This position will also include work with project activities for the Online and Applied System for Intervention Skills (OASIS) Training Program, the development of a train-the-trainer model of our OASIS Parent Training, the development and establishment of a statewide resource center for families of children with neurodevelopmental disabilities who are in and out of the foster system, and educational events focused on preventing Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs).

The Research Assistant will be cross trained to support each of these projects as a part of the larger research team. This position will require travel to rural areas of Kansas to provide education and hands on training to caregivers and providers to teach basic evidence-based practices. This position will be expected to prepare training material, participate in the clinical demonstration portions of the training, and should be comfortable stepping in as a lecturer as needed. The Research Assistant will also assist with any additional grant-related and research activities including grant proposal writing, survey development and dissemination, and other project activities.

Job Description:

Condition of Employment: Travel to rural areas in Kansas is required. Incumbent must provide their own transportation.

Required Qualifications

Education: A Bachelor\'s degree.

Work Experience:

  • 2 years\' experience working with children, children with disabilities.
  • Experience with public speaking or training peers and professionals.
  • Knowledge of basic evidence-based behavioral strategies and exposure to clinical settings as evidenced by application materials.

Preferred Qualifications

Education: A Master\'s degree.

Work Experience:

  • 1 year experience of training others in either clinical or professional settings).
  • Experience and/or understanding of scientific approaches to treatment such as the basic principles of Applied Behavior Analysis.
  • Experience conducting interventions or research with children, adolescents, or adults with autism (or related research projects).

Skills

  • Quick to learn new technologies.

Job Duties Outlined

  • Facilitate project activities such as in-person or virtual training, hands on skill demonstration, activity coordination, team meetings, and data collection.
  • Assist with data collection, data entry, data management, and other related tasks.
  • Coordinate training schedules across collaborators with supervisor and trainees; assist with standard office responsibilities (e.g. preparing materials, filing).
  • Complete assessments during baseline, post, and follow-up sessions.
  • Attend scheduled trainings and staff meetings.
  • Travel to rural areas of Kansas to provide education and hands on training to caregivers and providers to teach basic evidence-based practices.
