Responsibilities

We are seeking aSurgical Nurse,in our surgery department at St Joseph Medical Center a member of Prime Healthcare. As a Surgical RN, also referred to as an Operating Room Nurse (OR RN) or a Circulating Nurse you will specialize in assisting with surgical procedures that are performed in the operating room. They ensure the safe and effective delivery of surgical procedures, provide support to patients throughout the process, and contribute to positive patient experience and outcomes.

Bonus Options:Up to $20,000 (Paid out as a stipend every 90 days)

**If you are a Registered Nurse (RN) with experience in the Operating Room (OR), Surgery or had on the job training (OJT) in the OR you are encouraged to apply!

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (includes, but not limited to):

  • conduct pre-procedure assessments to evaluate patients' medical histories, current conditions, and any potential risks associated with the procedure

  • educate patients about the procedure, including what to expect before, during, and after the surgical procedure

  • during the procedure, assist the healthcare provider by preparing the patient, organizing supplies and equipment, and providing support as needed, you may also assist with administering local anesthesia or medications as directed by the provider

  • maintain knowledge of each phase of the peri-operative process and perform safe patient care throughout the entire peri-op patient experience

  • act as patient advocates, assist in preparing the patient for surgery, which may involve verifying the patient's identity and surgical site, helping to position the patient on the operating table, and ensuring that all necessary pre-operative procedures are completed

  • prepare the operating room, such as setting up surgical trays, ensure the cleanliness of the environment, and confirm that all required equipment is functioning properly

  • maintain a safe and sterile environment in the operating room by adhering to strict infection control protocols and ensure that all team members follow proper procedures for handling instruments and equipment

  • while the surgical team performs the procedure, act as a liaison between the operating room staff, patient support, and other areas of the hospital

    * If you are a licensed RN, we're prepared to provide training to suitable candidates if no experience in Critical Care *

Qualifications

Education and Work Experience

  • current and valid state RN License

  • current BLS (AHA) certificate upon hire and maintain current

  • current ACLS (AHA) certificate 30 days upon hire and maintain current

  • current PALS (AHA) certificate 30 days upon hire and maintain current

  • minimum of one year previous Perioperative experience or on the job training

  • Certified Nurse OR (CNOR) Certification (AORN) preferred

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
