Medical Assistant 77493 Overview The Medical Assistants primary responsibility is to assist the delivery of health care and patient care management for the primary care practice. This will include actively participating and supporting primary clinical teams with these efforts. The Medical Assistant behaves in a professional manner consistently demonstrates and promotes the values and culture of the practice. The Medical Assistant will work with and receive supervision from the physician(s), nurse practitioner(s), and/or physician assistant(s). Responsibilities Work as a member of the clinical team as a resource to the patients in the practice, this includes the following: Prepares patients for examination and treatment by escorting them from the waiting area to the exam room. Obtains patient vital signs and documents in patient records Prepares, cleans, and maintains exam and treatment rooms, as well as supplies and equipment Administers medications per physician/provider orders Assists in medication refills as per protocol Pre-visiting planning workflow to ensure care completion prior to visit whenever possible. Care coordination with the hospital, ER, consulting physician, community resources as appropriate Develop a workflow to ensure smooth transition for care for patients After visit summary review with patients when appropriate Develop relationship with patient as an integral member of the team Provide follow up contact with patient as directed by physician/provider to ensure compliance with recommendations related to medication, lab/imaging, specialist visits, dieticians, CDE, PCP, visits, etc. Responsible for being available o provide telephone advice per protocol, handle urgent and emergent calls Anticipate needs of the patient population. Ensuring that necessary documentation and pre-visit planning is completed or requested prior to patient visit Responsible for working with patient and patients care team to coordinate change readiness, needs assessment and develop an individualized treatment care plan Collaborates with the patient, physician, and other care team members in assessing the patients progress toward individualized health care goals Obtain referral/prior authorization/predeterminations from insurance providers when required Obtain prior authorization for prescription medications from insurance providers when required Assist with patient care in the health care continuum to achieve optimum outcomes in a safe and cost-effective manner Maintains strict confidentiality. Awareness of and adherence to all office policies and procedures. Strict observation of HIPAA and OSHA regulations and requirements. Treats staff, physician/providers, patients and family member/visitors with dignity and respect Participates in professional development activities Performs other related work as required Skills Knowledge of medical practice and care of patients Knowledge and ability to assist with examination, diagnostic and treatment procedures Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to perform or assist with performance of ordered exams to include the following: EKG, Spirometry, ABI, Influenza rapid, Strep rapid, COVID rapid, Urinalysis dipstick, Urine dipstick HCG, Autoclave, etc. while maintaining strict adherence to OSHA Exposure control policies and use of universal precautions Knowledge of common safety hazards Ability to take vital signs Skills in developing and maintaining clinical quality assurance Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures as delineated by practice Demonstrates ad learning attitude toward solving problems-ability to identify and resolve problems Ability to maintain medical records Ability to use good reasoning and judgement Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, coworkers, and the public Demonstrates customer service skills to provide exceptional patient and family experience Ab lity to work with peers in a team situation Provides safe patient centered, compassionate competent care Provides leadership for patient care teams and processes Take initiative to help others Ability to read, write and communicate effectively orally and in writing Knowledge of basic arithmetic Proficient in computer skills for documentation and work-related purposes Administration of immunizations and other medications (antibiotics) as ordered by physician/provider Qualifications High school graduate or GED Minimum of one (1) year medical experience in a physicians office or equivalent combination of training and experience EMR experience, Allscripts PRO preferred Supports practice mission, vision, culture, and goals Must possess a current CPR certification Certification from a Medical Assistant Program Background requirements: Candidates must pass background check.
