Clinical Coordinator (11 Month)

Job Responsibilities

The clinical coordinator is responsible for facilitating clinical placements for nursing students. This job will involve identifying and negotiating clinical placement settings, appropriate preceptors, and other clinical-related learning experiences. The clinical coordinator will assist in arranging all aspects of the clinical experience including identifying the need for new contracts with potential clinical agencies and/or preceptors and assuring compliance with contractual agreements. The clinical coordinator will assure compliance with background checks, health/immunization requirements, and drug screens as appropriate. The clinical coordinator will also collaborate with the clinical nursing faculty to determine placement needs each semester. This is an 11-month, benefit-eligible position and reports to the Chair of the Department of Nursing.

Clinical planning:

  • Communicate via email, phone and/or in person with nurse educators and/or placement coordinators in hospitals and clinics to develop clinical placements for nursing students.
  • Coordinate with Department Chair and clinical nursing faculty to determine the number of student placements needed each semester and the level, and type of experience needed.
  • Input requests for nursing student clinical groups and precepted placements according to facility deadlines.
  • Attend clinical planning meetings.
  • Interact with clinical agencies to plan for and schedule student group clinical or individual senior clinical elective preceptor rotations.

Clinical contracts:

  • Ensure that the facility contracts are current and initiate renewal process or new contract process as needed.
  • Identify potential student learning experiences in clinical sites.
  • Work with Department Chair/Faculty to initiate new clinical facility contracts as needed.

Vetting of nursing students:

  • Assure students have completed all health and safety requirements as per CastleBranch.
  • Complete vetting for students as required by each facility.

Precepted student experiences:

  • Assist in securing and vetting suitable preceptors.
  • Assist in the facilitation of new preceptor orientation.
  • Maintain preceptor documents.

Clinical schedules:

  • Assist in development of clinical schedules in coordination with clinical faculty.
  • Communicate clinical assignments with facility contacts.
  • Assist in rescheduling make-up clinical as needed.
  • Maintain all files related to student clinical assignments each semester for each clinical course.
  • Coordinate with clinical faculty to assure students have completed required clinical time each semester.

Evaluation:

  • Provide input into the evaluation process of clinical sites and preceptors as appropriate.

Interprofessional education:

  • Assist in coordination of Interprofessional Education at A. T. Still University.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficient in basic computer skills- including use of spread sheets.
  • Excellent computer based organizational skills including creating and improving organizational systems with multiple variables (e.g., maintain accurate and detailed reports and records).
  • Excellent public relations skills including ability to reach out to appropriate sources to get the resources or find information neede to be successful, using proper etiquette both electronic and interpersonally.
  • Strong professional communication skills, calmly working with people expressing frustration, remaining flexible and effective during unexpected situations or changing conditions.
  • Ability to develop and maintain excellent working relationships with faculty and coordinators/nurses at many institutions.
  • Keep updated records and attend to details despite much change.
  • Show a high level of dedication by following through with commitment, in a reliable and communicative manner.
  • Take the initiative to solve or improve problems and situations proactively without needing supervision.
  • Manage time to accomplish tasks efficiently and effectively (e.g., multi-task).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity and understanding of health care.
  • College degree.
  • Nursing diploma or degree.
  • Recent experience with student or employee scheduling.

Salary

The salary for this position ranges from $35,600 to $47,880 commensurate with qualifications and experience.
