Job Title: Maintenance Technician

Salary: £16.13 p/h

Location: Larne

Benefits:

  • 25 days annual leave plus 8 Bank Holidays.

Caterpillar Larne is home to the Electric Power business and its principal activity is in the design, manufacture, sale and support of quality standard and customised generator sets and bespoke associated equipment that provide reliable electric power around the world.

The Opportunity

Caterpillar has an exciting opportunity for a Maintenance Technician who wants to be challenged and is interested in career progression. In this skilled role, you will provide technical expertise and perform complex electrical and mechanical work. You will have the opportunity to provide direction to a team of semi skilled and skilled maintenance employees and will develop your communication and decision making skills as well as demonstrate high levels of initiative. You will interact with hourly and salaried employees within the Larne facility to provide essential maintenance support for operations activity.

What you’ll do

  • Maximise machine availability in a cost effective and safe manner.

  • Fault diagnosis of electronic, mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic control systems.

  • Build, install and repair mechanical, electrical and electronic circuits used on machine tools and plant equipment.

  • Test faulty equipment and apply knowledge of operation of mechanical and electronic units to diagnose malfunctions. Resolve problems and recommend solutions to prevent reoccurrence

  • Align, balance and calibrate equipment including mechanical and electronic testing instruments

  • Manage plant energy consumption through various systems, and suggest energy improvements that could be implemented

  • Make improvements to health and safety through the development of SFMEA and JSA's to minimise the risk when completing maintenance activities

  • Complete required preventative maintenance tasks to agreed schedule

  • Comply with safety and quality standards

  • Comply with 5S programme and other business improvement initiatives

  • Display behaviour and conduct fitting with our Values in Action

  • Train other employees if and when required

What you’ll have

  • Formal apprenticeship or National Vocational Qualification equivalent in mechanical or electrical discipline with significant post apprenticeship experience in a maintenance environment

  • The ability to follow and comprehend verbal, specific and detailed procedures and work instructions as well as difficult arithmetic calculations in order to perform the duties described above

  • Excellent skills in reading and interpreting highly complex electrical/electronic and mechanical schematic drawings and in applying the theory and application relating to plant operations and equipment

  • Ability to work from heights and in confined spaces

  • Flexibility to work a variety of shift patterns and a reasonable amount of overtime

Top candidates will also have

  • Previous experience working in a lean environment

  • Previous experience maintaining processes of plant based maintenance

  • Strong customer focus

  • Attention to detail to meet quality standards

  • Good level of computer literacy and knowledge of a computer based maintenance management system
