Product Evaluation Systems (PES), an ATS company, operates as a comprehensive testing laboratory situated in Latrobe, PA, just 40 miles southeast of Pittsburgh. ROLE

As a Metallurgical Engineer II, your role entails leading and interpreting metallurgical analyses within our laboratory. This includes ensuring the accuracy of reported results, collaborating with metallographers to interpret material microstructures, conducting or assisting in failure analysis projects, utilizing SEM and light microscopes for analysis, managing long-term client projects, and devising analytical strategies and metallurgical recommendations to meet client needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Interpret material specification and customer requirements.

  • Analyze microstructural/macrostructural features of the material using materials analysis techniques and imaging/analysis software per applicable specifications and purchase order requirements.

  • Communicate with customers, as needed, regarding nonconformances, scope of work issues/questions or unexpected analytical results.

  • Design, write, and test new procedures (and subsequent implementation).

  • Communicate with customers (verbal and written) regarding findings, interpretation and clarification of results.

  • Review customer testing requirements/RFQs to determine feasibility and expected costs.

  • Final review of analytical reports for thoroughness and accuracy.

  • Assist in failure analysis investigations and summary report generation.

  • Assist in heat treatment decisions and oversight.

  • Perform other duties as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Material Science or Metallurgical Engineering required

  • Master’s degree in Material Science or Metallurgical Engineering preferred

  • Minimum five (5) years of prior experience in Material Science/Metallurgy. Master’s degree may be used to substitute for some experience.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite products and Outlook.

  • Preferred advanced skills in developing/programming software used to analyze data (e.g. Excel).
