Indian Health Service Utility Systems Repairer Operator in Lawton, Oklahoma

Summary This is a Utility Systems Repairer Operator (USRO) position located in the Maintenance Dept., Lawton Indian Hospital (LIH). The incumbent is supervised by a USRO Supervisor. Incumbent will service and repair major equipment/utility systems and related equipment required to provide building/utility services for all buildings at LIH. Position will also perform carpentry, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, & other building services for renovation/construction projects & preventative maintenance. Responsibilities Maintain, operate and repair all utility systems (such as chillers, cooling tower, pumps, air handlers, steam boilers, domestic hot water and chilling loop, HVAC, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems), and related auxiliary equipment. Maintain surveillance of the computerized heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system control. Perform repairs, renovations and construction projects to hospital and other buildings on-site, and maintains building features. Perform scheduled preventive and emergency maintenance on utility systems, building components, and other mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. Maintain operating conditions, makes adjustments, carries out maintenance, makes minor routine and emergency repairs to various equipment operated. Perform basic renovation such as: residential or commercial construction. Knowledge of electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and welding trades. Respond to frequent changes in instructions, with respect to the team, project and/or task adhere to a schedule to perform preventive maintenance work and inspection and maintain complete records of work complete use and maintain a variety of electrical, carpentry, painting and plumbing equipment, hand and motorized. WG-09: Experience in performing duties as a utility systems repairer operator associated with troubleshooting, maintenance, preventive maintenance, and repair of the following: operation of domestic hot water tanks, hydronic steam boilers, steam boilers, HVAC systems, refrigeration units, medical vacuum pumps, chillers, air handlers, medical gas systems, electrical systems, plumbing systems, access control, fire protection systems, electrical generators/emergency generators. Understand and troubleshoot electronic/controls, reads and interprets blueprints and technical manuals to understand the functions of parts/systems. Maintain operating conditions, makes adjustments, carries out maintenance and corrects variations in temperatures and pressures, makes minor routine and emergency repairs to various equipment operated. Perform basic renovation such as: residential or commercial construction. Knowledge of electrical, plumbing, carpentry, locksmith, and welding trades. Respond to frequent changes in instructions, with respect to the team, project and/or task adhere to a schedule to perform preventive maintenance work and inspection and maintain complete records of work completed use and maintain a variety of electrical, carpentry, painting and plumbing equipment, hand and motorized. WG-10: Experience in complex industrial/commercial process operations or power plant operations, including performing set-ups and adjustments required to produce results conforming to design specifications. Document log-taking and interpretation of logged values for the purpose of conducting trend analysis, and determining compliance to specifications or determining overall operational efficiency of the process or system. Understand and troubleshoot electronics/controls systems and determine suitable repair parts meeting system design specifications or mechanical experience in tear-down, cleaning, and inspection of operating parts for wear/damage, and making recommendations for and/or performing change-out of these parts. Perform renovations such as: commercial construction. Skilled in: electrical, plumbing, carpentry, locksmith, and welding trades. Respond to frequent changes in instructions, with respect to the team, project and/or task adhere to a schedule to perform preventive maintenance work and inspection and maintain complete records of work completed use and maintain a variety of electrical, carpentry, painting and plumbing equipment, hand and motorized. You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. Education There are no education requirements. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. This position is covered by a Bargaining Unit. Incumbent may frequently lift and carry tools and equipment weighing up to 23 kilogram (80 pounds) and occasionally items weighing more. Required to operate government owed or lease vehicles in the performance of assigned duties, current state driver's license required. Physical Requirements: Light to medium physical effort is required in observing equipment and adjusting controls. The work may require continual standing and walking, some squatting, bending, climbing ladders, reaching above the head, and lifting up to 80 lbs. Occasionally works in awkward and cramped conditions when making repairs. Working Conditions: Work is performed in the Facilities Management Service and also in mechanical rooms, sometimes outside, occasionally in inclement weather. Employee is exposed to the possibility of boiler bursts and steam blow back, toxic gases refrigerants, fumes, and scalds. Subject to cuts, bruises, electrical shock, chemical irritations and broken bones while working around machinery and equipment. Noise level is often high and ear protection is required. Other protective devices such as goggles, respirators, steel-toe shoes, gloves, hard hats, etc., while in performance of specific duties such as water testing, handling chemicals and refrigerants, etc., will be worn as required, in accordance with OSHA regulations. This position has promotion potential to the WG-10 grade level. Promotion to the next grade level is at management's discretion and is based on your demonstrated ability to perform the higher level duties, the continuing need for the higher level duties, and "Regulatory/Administrative" approval.
