WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER The Western Ozarks Stewardship Intern (Intern) will help advance stewardship objectives in the Osage River Hills priority geography and overall TNC stewardship objectives in the Osage River Hills of Missouri. The Intern will work 25 - 35 hours per week for up to 12 weeks from June through August. Housing is not provided. WE'RE LOOKING FOR YOU The Intern will assist with fieldwork in native and restored savannahs, glades, and woodlands. The supervisor will provide all necessary training and accessibility accommodations. Work will include, but is not limited to: Use of power equipment, backpack sprayers and non-restricted herbicides for restoration activities. Mapping and treating woody and invasive species. Assisting conservation partners in management activities as needed. Assisting with prescribed fire operations including preparation, holding, ignitions, and post burn operations. Working in variable weather conditions, at remote locations for long periods of time in isolated settings, on difficult and hazardous terrain and under physically demanding circumstances. Interacting with landowners and the public. Adhering to Conservancy safety guidelines. If interested in becoming certified in firefighting, training may be provided (National Wildfire Coordinating Group Firefighter Type 2). WHAT YOU'LL BRING MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS High school diploma or GED and 6 months of related experience. Ability to operate various types of equipment in a safe and efficient manner (e.g., chainsaw, UTV, ATV or OHV, two-way radio, or similar equipment) - training will be provided. Completion of NWCG S130/190, L180 courses. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS Currently studying towards a degree in natural resource management, rangeland ecology and management, wildlife biology, environmental science, or related field. Supervisor will work with student/advisor to complete any university documentation to obtain credit(s). Able to use Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint; Zoom; cloud collaboration tools such as Google Documents or Box Tools; and web browsers. Experience with mapping, GIS, ArcGIS, and Acrobat Pro Ability to follow instructions from colleagues/coworkers/team members. Ability to work in a team environment. Maintain a good driving record. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. Where a successful candidate's actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including, for example, the candidate's location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. Please note countries outside the USA would have a different pay range in the local currency based on the local labor market, and not tied to USA pay or ranges.
