Sargent Electric Utility Project Manager in Lewiston, Maine

We are looking for an experienced UTILITY PROJECT MANAGER in our Lewiston, Maine office.  As a Utility Project Manager at Sargent Electric Company, you'll lead construction projects within our industry-leading New England utility division, building on a company legacy of excellence since 1907. You will ensure projects meet the highest safety, quality, and efficiency standards on various New England job sites. Your role includes overseeing budgets, schedules, and resources, directly supervising teams, and maintaining clear client communication. By upholding our tradition of safety, quality workmanship and adherence to project specifications, you will contribute to Sargent Electric's continued success and industry leadership.

This role offers a hybrid work arrangement.  You will spend three days a week in the office, giving you the flexibility to work remotely for two days.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position will offer you the opportunity to manage the execution of multiple transmission, substation, and distribution projects. The position will involve coordinating with multiple internal and external departments to manage the life cycle of project execution.

  • Develop comprehensive project plans, defining scope, goals, deliverables, and timelines.

  • Coordinate with internal teams and external stakeholders to assign tasks and responsibilities.

  • Monitor project progress, identify potential roadblocks, and implement effective solutions.

  • Recognize, identify, track and control change. Manage scope growth and prepare change orders if/when required.

  • Ensure adherence to industry best practices, safety guidelines, and regulatory standards.

  • Prepare project budgets and cost estimates, tracking expenses throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Identify potential risks and develop risk mitigation strategies to minimize project disruptions.

  • Continuously assess project risks and make data-driven decisions to overcome challenges. Analyze issues and provide solutions to improve results.

  • Implement contingency plans to address unforeseen circumstances and maintain project momentum.

  • Delegate tasks, set clear expectations, and provide guidance to team members.

  • Conduct regular performance evaluations, mentorship, and professional development initiatives.

  • Develop and maintain a positive working relationship with client functional leads and stakeholders.

  • Lead efforts to ensure projects are completed safely, satisfactorily, on time, and within budget.

  • Communicate and consult with appropriate stakeholders and supervisors.

  • Prepare reports that project information in a clear and concise manner and meet client requirements.

  • Assume any additional duties and responsibilities as delegated by Sargent Electric Management.


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Project Management, Business Administration, or related field.

  • Proven experience (5+ years) as a Project Manager (preferably in the electric utility industry or a related field).

  • In-depth knowledge of electric utility systems, equipment, and infrastructure.

  • Demonstrated success in managing financials, schedule, and change control, involving project sponsor and stakeholders.

  • Strong understanding of project management methodologies, tools, and techniques.

  • Demonstrate excellent leadership behavior and professionalism while providing leadership at the project, team, and organization level.

  • Ability to make informed decisions under pressure, meet strict deadlines, and facilitate focused and cross-functional meetings and calls.

  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements and environmental standards in the electric utility industry

  • Ability to multitask and manage multiple competing priorities is critical to success

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to work in a collaborative team setting

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Versant Power, Eversource, Central Maine Power experience is a plus

  • PMP Certification is a plus

  • Construction and start-up experience is a plus

  • Earned Value Management experience is a plus
