Amergis Orthopedic Tech | Cast Tech in Lexington, Kentucky

Amergis Healthcare Staffing is seeking an Orthopedic Technician. The Orthopedic Technician works directly under the supervision of the Orthopedic Surgeon. The Orthopedic Technician assists with splinting and casts, as well as minor orthopedic procedures as directed by the surgeon. The Orthopedic Technician may also assist with preparing personal assistive devices and training for use by the patient.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Schedules appointments, monitors appointments and screens phone calls

  • Assists patients in scheduling follow up appointments, consultative appointments, and other specialty appointments as requested

  • Assists with the ordering and maintaining of medical equipment and supplies

  • Provides pre and post-operative care instructions and paperwork to patients. Obtains vital signs, necessary measurements for surgeon, etc.

  • Assists surgeon with minor orthopedic surgical procedures

  • Assists with splinting, casting, suture and staple removal and wound care

  • Cleans and maintains stock of patient exam and treatment rooms

  • Backs up to Medical Assistants and Surgical Assistants as requested

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED required

  • Completion of Orthopedic Training Program and Certification by the National Board for Certification of Orthopedic Technologists (NBCOT) preferred

  • Basic Life Support CPR, required

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support ACLS, may be required based upon specialty

  • 2-4 years of related experience required. Medical Assistant experience preferred

  • Current physical exam, if required by state regulations or contract specifications

  • Current PPD skin test or Chest X-Ray if applicable

  • Computer skills, including Microsoft Office and electronic medical records (EMR’s)

  • Knowledge of medical terminology; particularly to skill set

  • Demonstrates communication skills with patients, peers and medical staff
