POSITION PURPOSE: The Plant Manager provides leadership and guidance for the safe operation of the Sulfuric Acid Plant. There are 24-36 Veolia employees at each site and 3-23 resident contractors depending on the size and complexity of the site. There are differences between the products, inputs and markets between the plants.

PRIMARY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Ensures that assigned plant operations demonstrate world-class performance

  • Provides strategic leadership, management, and technical expertise to the organization.

  • Drives initiatives to foster a best-in-class safety culture in a High Hazard Process environment

  • Manages financial aspects of operations and understands the effect on financial performance.

  • Directs, implements, and maintains operational-level strategies and objectives and monitors performance against plan. Manages, monitors and controls material, labor, and overhead costs in respective area.

  • Champions projects for improvements in process and product innovations, customer relations, and functional capabilities based on lean manufacturing techniques.

  • Foster an environment with open communication and feedback

  • Drive high production capability though utilization of improvement programs and maintenance best practices

  • Manages, coaches, and develops team

  • Develops plant talent, skills and career path to help retain, attract, and engage skilled workforce.

  • Champion the High Performance Work Teams

  • Represent the plant at public/industry groups (Community Advisory Panels, Manufacturing Associations)

  • Manage area personnel - provide mentoring and guidance for direct reports, and oversee training and development systems

  • Work with the site employees to manage day-to-day operations

  • Interface with the Supply Chain for coordination of production and shipping schedules

  • Effectively communicate and interface with the Refinery/Customer when required

  • Effectively utilize leveraged resources as required

  • Accountable for total site cost and capital expenditures

  • Ensures systems and processes are in place that track and optimize productivity, standards, metrics and performance targets to ensure highest effective return on assets.

  • Promote and support change in response to ongoing business needs.

  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education / Experience / Background

  • 4-year degree in engineering or equivalent

  • Previous Management experience

  • Process Safety Management Experience in a High Hazard Process facility

  • 10 years of manufacturing experience in a chemical, refining or pharmaceutical industry

  • Strong leadership skills and experience

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal

  • Ability to set priorities and provide direction to influence management and the broader organization

  • Demonstrated strong teamwork, collaboration and cross-cultural skills

  • Demonstrated ability to create a respectful work environment where everyone can contribute to their full potential

  • Root Cause Investigation

  • Incident Investigation

  • Business software (SAP, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).

Required Certification / Licenses / Training

  • Six Sigma Certification
