WHAT YOU WILL DO

Amgen is seeking a talented Associate Software Engineer to build leading edge scientific applications with modern technology stacks that will be used by our research partners to drive Amgen’s innovation in drug discovery. The exceptional candidate will join our talented Research Informatics team to deliver solutions by leveraging best practices in Agile and DevOps. This Software Engineer supports our Research partners by designing and implementing IS solutions for Discovery, Non-Clinical & Early Development.

Key Responsibilities:

The Research Informatics team seeks a Software Engineer to execute outcomes focused on the management and utilization of data to transform the speed of biologics discovery & development as part of the Biologics NExT initiative:

  • Participate in technical workstreams that develop software components in support of R&D scientific business objectives.

  • Develop and expand our bioinformatics automation capabilities through support for new pipeline and algorithm integration in Amgen’s ecosystem.

  • Develop and deliver high-quality, scalable, and robust software products & components in collaboration with product management, stakeholders & engineering teams.

  • Ensure effective design, development, and lifecycle of software products to comply with security & quality standards of Amgen.

  • Collaborate with scientists to evaluate and utilize cutting-edge technologies in the industry to meet scientific business needs. Contribute to the vision & roadmap for the Research software ecosystem

WHAT WE EXPECT OF YOU

Basic Qualification:

Bachelor’s degree

OR Associate’s degree and 2 years of software engineering experience

OR High school diploma / GED and 6 years of software engineering experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and fundamental experience in modern software design and engineering practices, such as microservices, serverless, and containerization

  • Experience in developing and supporting scientific applications or laboratory information systems

  • Experience with one or more agile software development methodologies

  • Proficiency in one or more of the following technologies:

  • Java or Python programming language

  • JavaScript web application framework, such as ExtJS or ReactJS

  • Relational databases such as Oracle or Postgres

  • AWS services related to compute and storage, such as EC2, S3, Lambda, ECS and Batch

  • CI/CD pipelines, such as GitLab CI/CD or Jenkins

  • Demonstrated abilities to pick up scientific domain knowledge and understanding of scientists’ software requirements and workflows

  • Experience with bioinformatics applications including NGS pipeline development

  • High learning agility, innovation, and analytical skills. Additional coursework in biology or chemistry beyond AP level or research internship experience is beneficial
