City Of Live Oak Patrol Officer in Live Oak, Florida

General Summary: This work is performing firefighting and rescue activities; performing inspections and recommending fire prevention measures; operating and maintaining fire equipment; and administering first aid. Supervision Received and Exercised Work is performed under the supervision of a higher level firefighter or Fire Chief and is reviewed for compliance with standard procedures and achievement of desired results. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: These examples are intended only as illustrations of the types of work performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position. ? Performs firefighting and rescue duties. ? Extinguishes fires by accepted methods including pumping water to fire at designated pressure and insures suction and fire hoses are property located. ? Monitors and adjusts motor and unit during operation. ? Raises and climbs ladders; uses chemical extinguishers, bars, hooks, lines and other equipment. ? Ventilates burning buildings and removes people from danger. ? Cleans and maintains fire trucks and firefighting equipment daily, as directed or upon returning from a fire. ? Learns and monitors the location of fire hydrants, fire hazards, streets and buildings. ? Inspects buildings for fire hazards and recommends fire prevention measures. ? Participates in fire drills and attends classes in firefighting, first aid and related subjects. ? May drive fire pumpers and ladder trucks to scene of fire. ? Performs related duties as required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities ? Ability to learn a wide variety of fire-fighting duties and methods, including the operation of firefighting apparatus. ? Ability to understand, learn and keep up to date on Fire Department Rules, Regulations, Policies and Procedures including published material in the field of fire prevention, firefighting and first aid. Ability to learn basic city geography. ? Physical strength and agility sufficient to perform prolonged and arduous tasks under hazardous conditions, including heavy lifting. ? Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations. ? Ability to climb ladders. ? Skill in operating motor vehicles and other mechanical devices. Minimum Training and Experience ? Possess and maintain Florida Fire Standards Certification and EMT certificate. ? High school graduate or GED certificate. ? Possess and maintain a valid Florida drivers license. ? Free from color blindness, 20/20 corrected vision in each eye, with an uncorrected level no less than 20/40 either eye; good peripheral vision, adequate depth perception. ? Must pass medical examination. Working Conditions and Physical Factors ? Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, sometimes in extreme weather conditions. ? Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public. ? Requires physical capability to effectively use and operate cutting tools, fire tools, supply hoses, fire pump and pump operations; ability to lift and carry 10-25 pounds frequently and up to 40 pounds occasionally. ? May have exposure to respiratory conditions such as fumes/vapors, gases, dust, inadequate ventilation, odors, heat and hazardous chemicals. ? May have exposure to skin conditions such as toxic chemicals, electrical shock, radiation and burns. Position Description - Firefighter/EMT Page 3 of 3 ? May have working conditions with exposure to heavy machinery, working with scaffolding and high places, steam pipes and/or tunnels, biological and/or chemical reagents, machinery with moving parts, high voltage electricity, grease and oils, infectious diseases, vibration, cramped quarters and use of sharp objects. Special Requirements In addition to the abo e requirements, Chapters 633.34 and 633.35, Florida Statutes, require that any person employed in this class must possess and maintain all of the certifications listed above in order to continue employment. He or she must also carry a certificate of compliance issued by the Fire Fighters Standards and Training Council, which includes the following requirements: ? Must not have been convicted of a felony or of a misdemeanor involving moral turpitude as the term is defined by the law. ? Must have his or her fingerprints on file with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. ? Must have good moral character as determined by investigation under procedures established by the Council. ? Must have passed an examination by a licensed physician based on specifications established by the Fire Fighters Standards and Training Council. SALARY RANGE: $37,154.34 to $55,244.22 annually, plus $1,500.00 EMT stipend. Full-time firefighter candidates hired at the base starting salary of $37,154.34 can expect to earn approximately $43,120.43 annually with EMT stipend, Holiday pay, and scheduled overtime. This does not include possible call back overtime opportunities and a benefits package. The benefits package includes PTO of 215 hours the first year and 303 hours for 2 to 9 years of service.
