In this role you will strategically act as a legal business partner to Supply Chain Operations and the Marketing, Category, Product and Digital UK business functions. This role contributes to Starbucks success by providing critical legal advice and counsel to Starbucks management and partners, acting in accordance with Starbucks guiding principles and values. The successful candidate will be a highly motivated, curious self-starter, capable of using their initiative and relish working in a fast-paced, forward-thinking team.

Responsibilities

  • Operate as legal business partner in providing critical and timely general commercial legal support and advice to key functional areas within remit, providing strategic, coordinated advice and true and effective business partnering, supporting any projects and strategic goals, and proactively managing risk associated with relevant areas of the business.

  • Draft and negotiates a wide variety of agreements, contracts and legal documents with vendors, suppliers, and strategic partnerships, ensuring they protect the business, maximise value and manage legal risk.

  • Support the Supply Chain Operations function to create and build agile strategies and legal and commercial processes that champion functional excellence and scale to support our growth ambitions.

  • Advise Marketing on product and general advertising and claims, strategies, and consumer law issues.

  • Provide broader projects support to UK, EMEA and global functions as required and others in the UK legal team and wider business.

  • Leverage experienced members of the team to work on complex or high value work and delegates work to paralegals and other partners where appropriate.

  • Instruct outside counsel in areas of responsibility as appropriate.

  • Support development and implementation of systems and procedures to ensure efficient and consistent conduct of company business and identifies risks and liabilities implementing mitigations.

  • Keep abreast of new legal developments and regulation; escalating to responsible individuals within the business and developing plans (including training) to adapt or introduce new processes to deal with the changes.

  • Work collaboratively and as key business partner with relevant UK functions and with EMEA and global L&CA teams to ensure UK standards reflect Starbucks corporate strategy and to support implementation of L&CA policy and initiatives.

  • Identify opportunities, improves existing processes, procedures and precedents, and implements strategies to optimise and standardise legal services delivery in the UK.

  • Develop trusting relationships with Licensees, suppliers, and third-party stakeholders in order to facilitate commercial agreements efficiently. Develops external network of outside counsel and advisors to leverage support to the UK business and added value services.

  • Educate and train relevant functions in key areas of law, regulation and compliance and implements processes to enable the business to ‘self-serve’ and accelerate.

The best part about this role is that no two days are ever the same! Working as our Corporate Counsel you will have the following skills and experience:

  • England and Wales qualified solicitor

  • Relevant post qualification general commercial experience (3-5 years PQE) with strong experience of independently negotiating complex contracts

  • Previous in–house experience (required)

  • Experience in supply chain / supplier sourcing and procurement (desirable)

  • Organisation and planning skills

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; good presentation skills

  • Ability to influence cross-functionally in a fluid environment and at all levels of seniority – internally and externally

  • Ability to balance multiple priorities and meet deadlines

  • Ability to pivot quickly with business needs and be extremely responsive to business partners, management and UK Leadership Team

  • Analytical skills

  • Energy, determination and passion for the Starbucks business and for personal and team growth and development
