General Summary:

The Sound Manager is responsible for managing a busy, in-house audio broadcast facility, consisting of Production Sound Control Rooms, Commentary booths and Multi-Audio Rooms. The manager is the principal on site contact for all facility clients, ensuring the facility and the team operate to the highest standards.

This role will oversee the day-to-day management and development of the Sound facility and staff. Providing a professional and effective collaboration with associated operations within the service delivery chain. You will ensure that the audio workflows provided and designed by Audio Technology are fit for purpose and effective operationally.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage, lead and develop a team of sound professionals.

  • Oversee and govern the Sound Department with responsibility for ensuring services are delivered to the highest standards here in the UK and across Europe.

  • Manage facilities across two London Markets

  • Ensure that any technical faults during production are either resolved or suitable workarounds put in place to minimize disruption to production output.

  • Establish regular communication and strong working relationships with key clients within the business with a focus on future strategy and planning.

  • Work collaboratively with other GT&O organisations i.e. MAM, Ingest, Engineering, MCR, Production and Transmission ensuring working relationships are maintained and communication is clear and effective.

  • Work with Audio Technology to ensure that new network and system upgrades are implemented and rolled out effectively, ensuring the Sound Guarantee team are trained and informed.

  • Work closely with Audio Technology to ensure that Operational requirements are taken into consideration when workflows and Technology are being updated/upgraded.

  • Represent Operations across all Audio workflows, acting as the link between Engineering and Production to enable a joined-up approach to production requirements.

  • Identify key development opportunities for improved workflows, system development and enhanced reporting.

  • Drive forward system and software development needs for the facility with the Engineering team, overseeing testing, implementation, and relevant training.

  • Develop in-house talent through the provision of comprehensive technical training

  • Actively manage POs, invoices and track additional costs

  • On behalf of Production Operations lead projects and initiatives with focus on successful delivery of projects on time and in budget

  • Provide support to the line manager in operational and strategic decision making

  • Identify savings opportunities; promote sharing of best practice and process change opportunities to increase efficiency

  • Assist in Production Operations execution and implementation of new business plans, launches and initiatives.

Requirements:

  • Significant experience in audio within broadcast Studio/facility or Outside Broadcast environment

  • Strong leadership and team management skills demonstrating the ability to motivate, develop and inspire a team

  • Proven track record in managing large, successful teams, delivering to the highest standards

  • Experience with Riedel intercom system, IP codec units, RF Microphone and IEM equipment

  • Knowledge and experience in support and configuration of Lawo audio consoles would be beneficial

  • Proactive in trouble-shooting, problem solving and avoidance of issues

  • Adaptable and flexible in a challenging, demanding and fast-paced environment

  • Knowledge and experience with matrixes and IP systems in relation to the broadcast environment

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to represent Production Operations Audio at a high level in meetings

  • Take the lead for the Sound Operations department in projects and initiatives, ensuring a considered and effective approach is deployed, projects are delivered on time and to budget and risks and issues highlighted

  • Ability to prioritize and work autonomously under pressure and to tight deadlines

  • Strong team player and solid interpersonal skills

  • Experience of budget and expense management

15 dedicated VO booths

10 Multi-audio rooms

Hybrid Working - This role is advertised as a Hybrid work model, that combines remote and in-office work, following our current company policy and to be agreed with your Line Manager. Subject to any applicable laws, WBD / your Line Manager reserves the right to change this working agreement where this is essential to business needs and upon reasonable notice to you.
