Your New Role…

This role will primarily support the GAS, Benelux and Nordic markets but may also cover other territories. WBD seeks an enthusiastic, and motivated team player to work within all commercial and legal aspects of WBD’s content commission, co-production, acquisition and talent deals for WBD's products with a focus on supporting the GAS, Benelux and Nordic markets. This position involves working closely with the editorial teams and collaborating with other departments to ensure delivery of compliant content that WBD can exploit and promote worldwide. Production or commissioning experience is essential. Extensive contacts amongst programme producers and distributors would be an advantage.

Your Role Accountabilities…

  • Negotiate commercial and legal terms relating to the acquisition, commissioning and co-production of content for WBD’s platforms and channels.

  • Establish, maintain and develop close working relationships with key internal clients including but not limited to the content and production teams, acquisition and digital teams.

  • Format, draft, and negotiate programming agreements such as development, acquisition, commission, co-production, format and licensing agreements and associated agreements such as distribution agreements, talent agreements, location and participant release agreements

  • Establish, maintain and develop relationships with key content suppliers.

  • Provide market intelligence research and support for business initiatives as directed.

  • Provide on-going general business and legal advice to internal clients concerning production, broadcast clearance, copyright and other intellectual property and content-related issues, as they arise.

  • Troubleshoot various programming business and legal issues, including drafting responses to claim letters, drafting delay notification letters, termination agreements, assisting with pre-publication review and legal compliance content review, and liaising internally and externally as appropriate regarding high exposure rights clearances.

  • Updating the department’s template agreements.

  • Revise and update DEAL database and such other information tracking mechanisms in use within the business.

  • Supporting other company business initiatives as directed.

Qualifications & Experience…

  • Technically proficient lawyer – needs to have excellent understanding of contract and media law and excellent drafting skills.

  • Qualified lawyer required with at least 4+ years PQE or equivalent negotiating experience working in business affairs in the entertainment industry.

  • Extensive contacts with programme producers, distributors and broadcasters.

  • Ability to work autonomously on complex deals and to own key internal commercial relationships.

  • Good negotiation skills.

  • Flexible and pro-active approach to work

  • Excellent interpersonal skills – ability to work effectively at all levels within the company.

  • Clear and concise communicator (both orally and written).

  • Well organised and attention to detail: this role requires focus and energy.

  • Good commercial knowledge and common sense essential.

  • Professional: calm under pressure, clear thinking, well organised, proactive and grasps concepts quickly.

  • A good team player, and have flexible, hands-on approach.

  • Has the maturity and foresight to keep the VP informed on workload and escalating issues to them where risk is high in deals being worked on.

  • Ability to manage own time judiciously and deal effectively with competing interests.

  • Confident, sociable and ability to interact with clients from different cultures and backgrounds.

  • Relationship management

  • Clear thinking - willing to make sound and prompt decisions

Hybrid Working - This role is advertised as a Hybrid work model, that combines remote and in-office work, following our current company policy and to be agreed with your Line Manager. Subject to any applicable laws, WBD / your Line Manager reserves the right to change this working agreement where this is essential to business needs and upon reasonable notice to you.
