Los Alamos National Laboratory Materials Science Postdoctoral Research Associate in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

The Center for Integrated Nanotechnologies (CINT) has great opportunities for outstanding candidates to join our effort in the growth and characterization of functional thin film materials and devices. Functional properties characterizations including device characterization and low temperature transport are critical skills. Experience in reflection high-energy electron diffraction, synchrotron experiments or LabVIEW will be a plus. The growth/characterization tools available within in the team include pulsed laser deposition systems, sputtering, laser molecular beam epitaxy systems, thin film X-ray diffraction, electronic device characterization tools, physical properties measurement system etc. Other synthesis, nanofabrication and characterization facilities are available at Center for Integrated Nanotechnologies (CINT, http://cint.lanl.gov/). CINT is a Department of Energy, Office of Science Nanoscale Science Research Center (NSRC) funded national user facility, jointly operated by Los Alamos and Sandia National Laboratories. Candidates are expected to collaborate with scientists at different organizationsto perform cutting-edge materials science research which supports Laboratory missions and maintains Laboratory Excellence in Science and Technology.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • A Ph.D. in Materials Science, Physics or related fields completed within the last FIVE years or soon to be completed is required.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills as demonstrated by writing and/or editing technical journals, papers or proposals.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills as demonstrated by experience with public speaking (speaking at conferences, workshop, seminar, etc); experience presenting technical information and data to upper management or others in the scientific community.

  • Ability to work productively on multiple projects as demonstrated by meeting deadlines, goals and requirements.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Candidates should have an experimental background and an exceptionally strong publication record in one or more of the following areas:

  • Experimental material physics

  • Thin film synthesis

  • Magnetism and low temperature transport

  • Device measurement and characterization

  • Microstructure characterization

  • Nanofabrication

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Salary: Competitive salaries are based on the date the PhD degree requirements were completed or the degree was awarded. Starting salary for a new graduate is currently $94,500. Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 (https://directives.nnsa.doe.gov/supplemental-directive/sd-0206-0002) .
