The UCLA Health Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center (UCLA Health JCCC) is the hub all cancer activity on campus and throughout the communities. As one of six major research themes within UCLA Health, the goal of UCLA Health JCCC is to develop and foster visible concentrations of excellence in basic and interdisciplinary cancer research and patient care at UCLA.

Reporting to the Executive Director of the UCLA Jonsson Cancer Center Foundation, who is the Senior Executive Director of Development/Cancer, Health Sciences Development (HSD), and working closely with senior administration, the Executive Director will lead the planning and implementation of development efforts for priorities in cancer and specifically, Hematology/Oncology, Radiation Oncology, UCLA Health JCCC Strategic Plan, and other areas as assigned. The Executive Director will design and lead a comprehensive development program for assigned departments and divisions, establish goals and objectives, coordinate strategies for fundraising, stewardship, cultivation, and communications. The Executive Director will oversee professional and support staff and will personally cultivate, solicit and steward donors at the major and principal gift levels.

Salary: $8,766.67 - $20,883.33 monthly

Qualifications

Required:

  • At least seven years of increasingly responsible experience in higher education, preferably in development or similar professional experience in a nonprofit membership/volunteer driven or related environment.

  • Working knowledge of high-level, sophisticated Development or similarly structured programs in an academic, membership/volunteer-driven or similarly structured environment including strong experience with major gifts or solicitations of a similar nature, level and complexity.

  • Demonstrated skill in developing and implementing successful strategies for identification, cultivation and solicitation of individuals, corporations, and foundations including the ability to envision and articulate future direction.

  • Knowledge of issues facing higher education and on the basic principles on which a public university is established.

  • Management and administrative skills to organize, direct, motivate and evaluate other professionals and volunteers.

  • Ability to grasp and articulate research quickly and across a wide spectrum of disciplines.

  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills (both written and oral) to interact effectively with academic leaders, faculty, staff, donors and volunteers.

  • A broad background in the management of unit-based and/or central teams in a major research university or institution of equivalent complexity.

  • Ability to render mature judgments, to tolerate ambiguity and to navigate and be effective within a complex environment.

  • Extensive experience participating in strategic planning.

  • Self-starter who works independently while, at the same time works well collectively and collaboratively with colleagues to achieve common goals.

  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as required and to travel to achieve stated goals.

Preferred:

  • Experience in an academic medical school or hospital setting is beneficial and

  • preferred.

  • Knowledge of UCLA and its philanthropic history is preferred.

  • Bachelor's degree preferred
