Join Dr. Tyler M. Pierson and their research group as a Research Associate I in the Cedars-Sinai Regenerative Medicine Institute!

The Pierson Laboratory is devoted to understanding the pathological mechanisms involved in rare and undiagnosed pediatric neurogenetic disorders. The research goal of the Pierson Laboratory is to extend these diagnostic elements by using patient-derived induced pluripotent stem cells to understand the disease mechanisms associated with these rare pediatric neurogenetic disorders and to explore stem cell-based therapies for the delivery of therapeutic drugs, small molecules and proteins. The Pierson Lab is also involved in confirming neurogenetic diagnoses in known, but rare, neurogenetic disorders, as well as developing research to link rare presentations of neurogenetic disorders with new genes and causes. The incumbent should have an interest in the basic science of stem cells and neuroscience. By understanding how the cells grow and differentiate, we will be able to produce a better cell for transplantation and develop techniques for disease modeling.

Working under direct supervision, the Research Associate I performs a variety of routine experimental protocols and procedures to support the objectives of one or more laboratory research projects in a specific area of research. Assists in general laboratory activities, including maintenance of reagents and stocking of supplies. Files and monitors documents. The RA I will be able to perform routine cellular, micro-and molecular biology procedures including, but not limited to Western, Northern blot, DNA/RNA, PCR, protein extraction, cell culture, Immunohistochemistry, and staining. This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Keeps accurate and detailed project records of experiments and results.

  • May assist with animal husbandry.

  • Maintains lab equipment and related records.

  • Transports, processes and logs samples.

  • Maintains computer database with relevant clinical information.

  • Performs lab maintenance duties, including glassware cleaning and sterilization.

  • Maintains stocks of general lab materials, and places orders for lab equipment and supplies.

  • Assists new students and fellows at the laboratory.

  • Assists in the operation of specialized equipment and machinery.

  • Observes and complies with safety standards and procedures.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree in biological science, or related field, required.

Experience and Skills:

  • Understanding of general research objectives.

  • Knowledge of routine laboratory procedures, experimental protocols, and overall lab organization.

  • Working knowledge of database management, personal computers, and presentation and imaging software.

  • Familiar with routine laboratory procedures and experimental protocols.

  • Must possess computer skills to include, but not limited to, Excel and Word.
