USC is seeking aWorkday Functional Design Managerto join the HR Systems and Operation teams within the Human Resources, Equity and Compliance organization. This position will report directly to the Director, HR Systems. The individual in this role will be responsible for managing the HR systems that provides functional and technical administration and support for all HR workstreams across the university. This role will set the strategy for HR system functional design, including resource planning and project management to improve HR activities. This role will manage a team of senior HRIS analysts, providing leadership and creative direction, defining business analysis strategy, and optimizing efficiency and effectiveness. The Workday Functional Design Manager will drive continuous system improvement by leading technical projects, identifying enhancement opportunities, and establishing surveys and metrics to monitor success and report on the team’s progress. This role will help enable USC’s vision while promoting USC’s culture and values.

Job Responsibilities:

The candidate for the position ofWorkday Functional Design Managerwill be responsible for:

  • Driving and directing the overall deployment of the HR systems strategy and design in collaboration with other technical system managers to ensure the quality, accuracy, and integrity of systems. Ensuring the designs are in alignment with application services strategies and enhancing the overall customer experience. Overseeing and validating changes and needs to fill systems gaps.

  • Collaborating with administrative and academic units in business planning activities to align HR systems and deliver excellent customer service. Enabling opportunities for functional teams to deeply understand their customers and stakeholders. Overseeing and enabling collaborations with stakeholders across the university to design and document business processes for HR systems.

  • Providing leadership by coaching and developing a team of senior HRIS professionals. Leading the education and training for teammates to ensure the design and delivery HRIS systems is aligned with organization’s vision and goals. Leading by example by demonstrating ethics and high accountability and actively driving the process of embedding ITS values and behaviors. Creating a culture of trust and transparency. Driving best-in-class customer service to USC through effective team member engagement.

  • Managing the implications of security and compliance guidelines by embedding university policies and procedures into HR system work plans and workflows. Partnering closely with customers to relay the importance of and sensitivity around risk identification, mitigation, and remediation. Establishing governance for functional design through the implementation of standards, procedures, and quality measures. Driving and overseeing the execution of the functional design service portfolio.

  • Partnering closely with HR and university leadership to identify, implement, and support cost- effective, leading solutions for all aspects of HR system functional design by maintaining currency with industry innovations, providing thought leadership around process optimization.

  • Maintaining awareness and knowledge of current changes within legal, regulatory, and technology environments which may affect operations. Ensuring senior management and staff are informed of any changes and updates in a timely manner. Overseeing and validating the development and implementation of HRIS platforms. Maintaining industry knowledge regarding HR systems developments and changes. Defining and managing the methods and procedures required to satisfy stakeholder requirements and goals. Driving continuous improvement by establishing surveys and metrics to monitor success. Monitoring and reporting on the progress of the team\Developing trusting, credible relationships from demonstrated ethical judgment, behavior, and practiced confidentiality related to HR system administration.   • Promoting contributions toward immediate and long-term goals. Providing clarity or realignment direction regarding scope, expectations, prioritization, and other factors that influence goals. Demonstrating, through words, actions, and ideas, alignment to USC’s strategic plan and the HR organization’s strategic plan. Enabling the university to fulfill its academic and people missions through enhanced HR service.

Preferred Qualifications:

The ideal candidate for the position ofWorkday Functional Design Managerhas the following qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in information technology, human resources, business administration, statistics, mathematics, computer science, communication, or another related field.

  • Ten or more years of experience in one or more of the following fields: information technology, HRIS administration, data analytics.

  • Four or more years of experience leading teams in a management or leadership role.

  • Eight or more years of experience managing or administering deployments in the Workday HCM suite.

  • Experience with Workday Integrations, Workday Studio and Workday Extend (Workday Cloud Platform).

  • Experience in higher education.

  • Experience working closely with senior leadership and executives, including identifying needs, developing action plans, identifying deliverables, and presenting results and recommendations for HRIS needs.

  • Demonstrated experience building and managing exceptional teams and providing consistent feedback to achieve results in line with strategic goals.

  • Ability to train staff on emerging industry trends for HRIS and ensure quality baseline of data and analytics.

  • Workday Pro certified in more than one Workday HCM suite area. Society for Human Resource Management Certified Professional/Senior Certified Professional (SHRM- CP/SHRM-SCP), Professional in Human Resources/Senior Professional in Human Resources (PHR/SPHR) or other similar certifications.

The annual base salary maximum for this position is $165,000 .00 . Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree. Minimum Experience: 6 years and 3 years in leadership/management roles. Minimum Skills: Demonstrated understanding of leading business processes/practices within varied industries (e.g., information technology, digital security). Extensive experience with varied platforms (e.g., software as a service [SaaS] and cloud-based applications) and enterprise resource planning solutions to support students, human resources, payroll, and/or financial services.
