Siena College is accepting applications for an adjunct instructor position to teach a Fall 2024 undergraduate course, EDUC 481 Instructional Theory and Practice for Biology.

EDUC 481: Instructional Theory and Practice (Biology). This course, which considers the theory and practice of effective instructional practices in diverse biology classrooms, will focus on the components of instruction and will be practice-oriented and performance-based. Additionally, this course provides prospective teachers with a framework to help them reflect on and improve their student teaching experience. Consequently, students will study Danielson's Framework for Teaching and use it to analyze their success within the four domains of planning and preparation, classroom environment, instruction, and professional responsibilities. Emphasis will be given to the understanding and application of the New York State Student Learning Standards. Such topics as unit planning and lesson planning, motivation, inclusion, diversity, teacher expectations, questioning skills, feedback strategies, methodology, technologies, and evaluation and assessment will be studied. The prospective teacher will develop and practice behaviors and strategies characteristic of effective teaching. Attention will be given to ways to place middle and high school students in more active roles as learners. Students pursuing certification through Siena's teacher preparation program will be required to complete a forty-hour field experience in inclusive classrooms at the secondary level (grades 7-12). EDUC 481 is set to meet in person from 5:00-8:00 P.M. on Thursdays.

Salary $1,287.50 per contact hour (3 credit-hour course that would pay $3862.50 for the fall semester)

The hiring salary above represent the College's good faith estimate at the time of posting in compliance with the Albany County Salary Transparency Law.

Job Requirements:

Candidates should have a minimum of a Master's Degree in Education or related field and exhibit a commitment to undergraduate liberal arts education. Demonstrated knowledge of New York State Science Learning Standards and national Next Generation Science Standards required. Prior college-level teaching experience is preferred.

A background screening will be required.
