As a Systems Engineer, you will be using your skills and expertise to research, architect, model, simulate, test, certify and improve cutting edge products and services. You'll be developing complex system architectures within contextual modeling platforms, ushering them from operational concept through preliminary and detailed design, simulation, and test using progressive tools. As a cross-functional engineer, you are in charge of system-level ownership of new products and processes through the product lifecycle.

Sierra Space is seeking a Principal Systems Engineer - Ground Systems to join our expanding Defense organization. The Principal Systems Engineer - Ground Systems will join our Ground Product Capability Center (Ground PCC) as it develops requirements, ground architectures, and concepts of operation for ground solutions across our Sierra Space Defense programs. The successful candidate will work within the Ground PCC team to develop, design, implement and integrate terrestrial command and control capabilities for our satellite programs.
Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's of Science degree in System Engineering or related discipline and typically 14 or more years of relevant experience Demonstrated knowledge of engineering principles and practices Progressive experience working in multi-disciplinary design and development teams Advanced understanding of requirements management, functional requirements parsing, derivation, and allocation; systems design, systems integration, technical risk identification and management strategies, and Verification and Validation (V&V) principles
Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree or higher in related field of study Significant experience in ground solutions for DoD space mission systems, including ground system architectures, operations, software, terrestrial infrastructure, and security technologies. Technical leadership experience for ground systems and BMC3 capabilities development. Demonstrated experience in ground solution design and development, including requirements development, system architecture modeling, system integration and verification. Experience managing and providing mentorship to team product leads and junior team members. Ability to clearly communicate and provide updates to peers, management, and customers. Current experience and competency in using digital collaboration and scheduling tools, such as JIRA, Confluence, and MS Project. Experience with requirements management and system modelling tools, such as D ORS, Cameo EA, MATLAB Advanced knowledge of industry-standard system design principles, to include, but not limited to requirements management, Model Based System Engineering (MBSE) Experience or certification in INCOSE standards Background in the Aerospace and Defense Industry Physical/Mental/Emotional Requirements: Frequently walk, sit, stand, climb stairs and steps Frequently repeat same hand, arm, and finger motion many times to include finger and hand dexterity Rarely lifting or carrying up to 20 lbs.
Working Conditions: Rarely exposed to outdoor elements (high/low temperatures, sun, rain/snow, etc.) Rarely exposed to fumes or hazardous chemicals/materials Rarely exposed to loud noises
