The Opportunity

As the Principal Consultant, Gas Strategic Asset Management , you will have the opportunity to identify and lead the delivery of projects in Strategic Asset Management (SAM), Asset Performance Management (APM_ and Asset Investment Planning (AIP) including ISO 55000, Copperleaf, etc with a focus on implementation of programs for our gas utility clients. Responsibilities will vary from project to project and involve client program discovery, strategy, justification, planning, implementation, regulatory filing. Principal Consultants define the client engagement strategy and project execution for assigned or identified projects, serve as a key-client point of contact for the engagement, and assign tasks/mentor junior team members assigned to the project team. You will also have the opportunity to support and in some cases lead business development activities including proposal responses and go-to-market strategy for solution offerings.

Consultants balance their team between client projects, offering and business development.

Key Responsibilities

Execution

  • Lead simple and support complex projects for Gas Utilities

  • Gas Utility Asset Risk and Performance transformation projects

  • Gas Utilities Business Case Analysis related to Asset Investment, Risk or Performance

  • Serve as the APM Subject Matter Expert on EAM assessments, selections, designs and implementations

  • Develop, present, and defend conclusions, recommendations, and implementation plan

  • Analyze and apply best practices from industry experience and research

  • Manage client expectations within defined scope of engagement

  • Recommend appropriate resources based on the phases of an engagement.

  • Manage engagement issues in moderate to more complex projects

  • Contribute to quality review on own engagement

  • Develop and deliver projects related to Strategic Asset Management and ISO 55000

  • Develop skills in regulatory filing and expert witness

Team Development

  • Delegate and manage work to assigned team members

  • Transfer capabilities, and skills to improve others’ knowledge and skill levels

  • Enhance established working relationships with team members and management from within the client’s organization

  • Outline specific performance measures, targets, and goals to articulate the business case for realized efficiencies or added value

Business Development

  • Assist on business development activities such as RFPs, writing Statements of Work and scoping of change orders

  • Develop understanding of wider Black & Veatch Solutions

  • Proactively work with client to identify additional scope and areas where Black & Veatch can add value

  • Seek attendance and speaking roles at industry conferences

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or relevant work experience

  • Has managed significant engagements

  • 10+ years in a business/consulting environment

  • All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree

  • 12 years of experience with Gas Utility

  • Knowledge of a complete engagement lifecycle.

  • Business development experience

  • Experience with APM/AIP systems like Copperleaf, Hitachi Lumada APM, IPS APM, Asset360 etc.

  • 15 years of experience in business/consulting environment or APM Vendor or direct utility experience including full lifecycle of Asset Investment, Risk and Performance projects with one or more of the following:

  • Experience with Gas Utility

  • Experience performing asset risk analysis

  • Knowledge of industry leading technology solutions for Asset Performance Management and Investment Planning

  • Experience with Gas Distribution & Transmission Asset and Work Management Processes

  • Demonstrated experience leading a project team of technical and functional consultants on Asset Management Consulting projects

Certifications

Certifications related to area of expertise, where applicable preferred.

Work Environment/Physical Demands

US-Based with ability to travel up to 50%
