Nelson County Building Inspector in Lovingston, Virginia
Position: Full-time Building Inspector Salary Range: $42,694 - $53,368 (DOQ) + Excellent Benefit Package Closing Date: Until filled by qualified applicant Start Date: As soon as possible
Nelson County, VA is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Residential and Commercial Building Inspector. Responsibilities include conducting and documenting site inspections of commercial and residential structures in accordance with the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Codes (USBC), International Building Codes (IBC), and the Virginia Amusement Device Regulations (VADR). The qualified individual will be issuing corrective orders in accordance with the above mentioned codes. In addition, the building inspector will administer and enforce the local ordinances for erosion and sediment control, and issue corrective orders as required.
Successful candidate must possess working knowledge of: USBC, IBC, and VADR, along with general knowledge of architectural and engineering principles, construction materials, practices, and techniques. The ability to read blueprints and construction drawings, accurately interpret complex codes and county ordinances is required. The ability to communicate professionally and effectively with the general public, contractors, architects and engineers, both verbally and in written form is essential. Basic knowledge of soil conservation through soil erosion and sediment control measures is a plus. Working knowledge of iWorQ Building Inspections software is desired. Continuing training and education for all levels of inspectors is expected and provided. Successful completion of training and certification requirements for either Residential Building Inspector or Commercial Building Inspector as established by the Commonwealth of Virginia is mandatory within 12 months. At least five (5) years experience in building inspections or related field and a valid and unrestricted Virginia drivers license is also required.
