Position Description:

Performs specialized work in the planning, conducting and/or supervising of original research. Responsible for participating in, planning, scheduling and/or supervising research projects and the interpretation of the results for publication. Work is performed under general supervision with evaluation based on accomplishment of assigned objectives and overall effectiveness of project. May supervise research and student assistants.

Major/Essential Functions:

  • Lead and manage field crews as part of the Landmark field research program.

  • Develop grant proposals.

  • Grant, permit, and land-owner report writing.

  • Produce and submit manuscripts for peer-review publications.

  • Manage the Landmark’s GIS database.

  • Administer the Landmark’s special samples databases and loans.

  • Conduct Quaternary vertebrate paleontology research, including taphonomic and vertebrate analysis.

  • Aid in exhibit development.

  • Lead and supervise staff and students in bone conservation.

  • Help to develop educational and outreach programs for the public.

  • Aid in volunteer and student recruitment.

  • Other duties as assigned by Director, Lubbock Lake Landmark.

  • Ability to multi-task and manage several projects simultaneously.

  • Must be eligible for approval to drive University vehicles.

  • Demonstrated ability to work creatively, collaboratively, and effectively as a team member, sometimes across organizational boundaries.

  • Experience interacting with the public.

  • Experience with Filemaker Pro databases

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Solid organizational, analytical, and decision-making skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Five years of field research and laboratory experience.

  • Quaternary research focus.

  • Field research experience in the Southern High Plains region of Texas and New Mexico.

  • Three years of bone conservation experience.

Required Qualifications:

Master's degree or specialized academic training beyond the Bachelor's level in a particular field of science or engineering equivalent to a Master's degree. One year research experience. Knowledge of modern research practices, the methods, resources, and standards thereof.
