Position: Community Transitions Para Educator 3 -- Main Street Campus

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must meet "highly qualified" requirement in one of the following ways:
    • All newly hired Para Educators will need a high school diploma or its equivalent and have completed two years of college or an associate's degree. If you do not have two years of college, you must have passed the ETS test for paraprofessional.  Documentation of each of these items are required at the time of hire.
    • Ability and willingness to complete the State of Washington required fundamental course of study for Para Educator.
  • Experience supporting the needs of students with disabilities and medical needs preferred
  • Previous successful experience working with students in a school setting
  • Experience supporting students with limited communication skills preferred
  • Experience working with English Language Learners preferred
  • Ability to work in small group setting
  • Ability to engage and respond to students of a wide range of physical, social, cognitive and behavioral needs
  • Experience academically assisting students
  • Effective communication skills, organization, and teamwork necessary
  • Right Response/Non-Violent Crisis Intervention or equivalent training preferred
  • Supporting and Educating students in a community setting.
  • Work with the district to obtain a Type II License.
  • Working one on one or in small groups with students in the community.
  • Ability to assist students with complex behavior needs with de-escalation strategies.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Be able to contribute positively to a team effort
  • Relates well to students, parents and colleagues
  • Able to effectively communicate through oral and written language with others
  • Assist teachers in the preparation of relevant educational tools and materials for classroom use
  • Reinforce listening, verbal, reading and writing skills
  • Ability to engage and respond to students of a wide range of physical, social, cognitive, and behavioral needs in a Life Skills setting
  • Position could include lifting and transferring students
  • May assist high needs students with self-care tasks such as toileting, dressing, feeding, while encouraging them to learn to do these tasks independently

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Work Year: 2024-25 school year; continuing position

*Hours:  * 2 hours per day; Monday -- Friday; 9:15 a.m. -- 11:15 a.m.

Starting Date:  8/28/2024

Salary: $22.63 to $26.25; depending on school district para educator experience

Benefits: This position does not qualify for healthcare benefits, retirement benefits, or vacation benefits.  Employee qualifies for up to 12 days of sick leave, and up to three (3) days of personal leave per school year.  (Days of sick leave and personal leave are prorated based on employee start date.)
