JOB REQUIREMENTS: Job Summary: The Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene (WSLH) is the state\'s public and environmental health laboratory. As part of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, the WSLH is committed to exploring new ideas that benefit the state, the nation, and the world. The Newborn Screening Laboratory has an exciting full-time public health opportunity for an experienced genetic counselor to conduct follow up activities associated with newborn screening (NBS) positive results. The primary role of this position is to reach out to the Wisconsin primary care clinics and newborn screening relevant specialty clinics to implement NBS follow-up policies and procedures. The duties include, but not limited to, obtaining confirmatory testing results and clinical diagnosis assessment information on infants with screening positive results. This position is expected to summarize and organize follow-up information on all screened conditions annually. The summarized information is used to monitor and evaluate the program performance, and identify the areas for improvement. This position is responsible for entering relevant data to the Newborn Screening Technical Assistance and Evaluation Program (NewSTEPs), a national newborn screening resource center designed to provide data, technical assistance, and training to NBS programs and to assist states with quality improvement initiatives hosted by the Association of Public Health Laboratories. This position is also expected to be a knowledge resource for primary care providers and families in screened genetic conditions. This position will also engage with student/trainee education activities, relevant program development and research, and NBS education committee. The person in this position is expected to model and use the tools and principles of quality management in their daily work including: demonstrating exceptional professionalism by establishing and maintaining effective professional relationships with directors, supervisors, coworkers, and all customers.
