AECOM is seeking a Systems Safety Engineer . This role will work on projects in different regions to ensure operational deployment success. The role will work according to AECOM’s values and demonstrate commitment, active involvement, and leadership regarding zero harm, client, people, and financial accountabilities. Note: you may be required to undertake a formal Competency Assessment and further Rail Safety Training if required under the Contract Conditions.

You, as part of the AECOM EC assurance team, will be responsible for the development of system safety activities collaborating with the different disciplines and stakeholders, especially focused on design but considering all the project life cycle.

The focus will be on rail and transportation projects, although the safety assurance processes that this position will cover, will be also applied to project in other end markets like B+P, Energy or Water.

Constant engagement with design discipline leads, clients and third parties is part of the focus for this role. Acting as an advocate for system safety, being able to train design teams that have not used this approach and communicating risks and progress to the project management team will be part of your day to day activities.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Application of System Engineering and Assurance plans and processes.

  • Detailed knowledge of relevant global and regional standards and guidelines including:

  • EN50126/8/9

  • Common Safet Method for Risk Evaluation and Assessment (CSM – REA)

  • RISSB Systems Safety Assurance Guideline

  • Federal Transit Administration Safety and Security certification process

  • Canadian Method for Risk Evaluation and Assessment (CMREA)

  • Develop Safety Statement and Safety Assurance Report.

  • Develop System Safety Case throughout the V lifecycle.

  • Undertake RAM Analysis and prepare RAM Assurance report.

  • Prepare and manage Hazard Log.

  • Achieving engineering and project milestones within the project schedule.

  • Participate/Lead Assurance gate submission for smaller projects.

  • Contributing to design reviews, workshops, integration, test and site installation activities.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • BA/BS + 4 YORE or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

  • A strong background in systems safety, RAM and assurance

  • Practical experience in all phases of the Systems Engineering Life Cycle, processes and principles.

  • Practical experience in System Safety and RAM Management, using relevant tools.

  • Experience in integration, verification and validation

  • Experience in undertaking Systems Assurance activities such as Gate Submission to support successful delivery through assurance gates

  • A high level of interpersonal and communication skills, as well as the ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Core Rail delivery Experience.

  • Use of reliability tools is a plus.

  • Masters Degree in Engineering

  • Professional registration with an appropriate institution.
